Netherworld Cascadian dark FAIL!

Post #1 made 12 years ago
I attempted to clone "Netherworld Cascadian Dark" from Flying Monkeys here in Canada and ended up with a delicious beer that is quite possibly better than the beer I was trying to re-create. It's kind of a cross between an APA and a Porter. Flavours of coffee and chocolate, with the punch of Cascade hop flavor and aroma. I do plan on upping the 0 min and dry hops in the future by 50% to start, but this is one of my best brews to date.

*** If anyone brews this and wins a medal, I expect to hear about it!! ;) ***

JR, change your topic title! Sounds like a major win to me. Good on you :peace:.

Btw, what is a Cascadian Netherworld Dark? (I should open your file but have too many windows open.) Maybe post the Recipe Report?

Netherworld is the name of the beer I was trying to clone, Cascadian dark is the style I suppose.

Cascadian dark Is the "other" name for Black IPA! The Cascadian mountains is the area where black IPA was championed. The name is one of the choices for the new BJCP category name. If it is accepted as a category?
tap 1 Raspberry wine
tap 2 Bourbon Barrel Porter
tap 3 Czech Pilsner
tap 4 Triple IPA 11% ABV

Pipeline: Mulled Cider 10% ABV

Just in case anyone is wondering who Brenna is from the recipe report. She is beautiful and awesome, and she always brews with me. Here is a pic of her to drool over......

Hmm, I would have guessed that FM Netherworld's IBUs are a bit higher than that, it is a great beer in any case. I like the 'Stereovision' quite a bit too...

Funny I haven't tried the smashbomb, the whole 'Atomic IPA' always kind of scares me away hah. I didn't know they listed IBUs on their site, guess I should check it out. The stereovision is a nice hoppy wheat, hoppy enough that I'm always waiting for the bitter aftertaste I think it should have, that never comes. Also the Hoptical Illusion APA is good too, obviously I have the monkey on my back.

I tried their Barleywine at a beer festival type thing. They had it marked as 40IBU, I asked the server if it was a mistake. Holy crap was it sweet.
