Brew Year Resolutions?

Post #1 made 11 years ago
First off, happy new year to one and all.

With all the new year shenanigans still in full swing in some parts I thought it would be a nice idea to reflect on the previous year's brewing and set some realistic goals for the year ahead. It must be said that although I have learnt much, my own brewing activities have been all over the place.

So here are some goals/ areas of focus for the year ahead that should put me on the path to brewing some half decent ale.

1. I've decided that I'm going to bite the bullet and join my local brew club http://baysidebrewers.blogspot.com.au/ as I've sussed them out and they seem quite open to BIAB. So we'll see how this goes.

2. Keep the supply steady. Despite best efforts I've often found myself waiting weeks for batches to be ready do to a lack of organisation. This has often resulted in me drinking fairly young beer. The best beer that I produced this year was a Dusseldorf Altbier that I bottled and completely forgot about for 6 months. I think it's all in the ageing :)

3. Keep better records. I really do need to get into the habit of keeping better brewing logs that contain the correct measurements and readings.

4. Experiment with smaller batches.

and finally...

5. I going to try to become more proactive on here. I value highly the power of networks and communities and would love to give something back here however small that may be.

So what are your Brew Year Resolutions, let's hear them.

All the best, Lee

2) After the recent loss of my brother , get my pipeline back up to Sept. levels at least.
3) A Biggie! Teach a neighbor or three how to brew BiaB
4) Even Bigger ....Spend more time with the kids and grandkids. Been working to freaking much !

As a new Brewer (BIAB'r) here is my list:

- Get first batch under my belt in the first week of the year (this weekend).
- Keep my fermenter (only have one) in use at all times.
- Stick with the SMaSH plan to learn about how the different hops play with my recipe.
- Make some Wit/Hef (not my style) for the wife & father-in-law to build support for my hobby!
- Keep learning, and contribute back when I can.
- Help build knowledge base for Mini-BIAB.

My brew beer resolution was for the following

1) Stop bottling in plastic - acheived already
2) No more kits (already done my first ever extract and next is BIAB)
3) Be doing AG ASAP
4) Brew more
5) Brew more 5l experimental batches
6) Learn lots on brewing
7) Brew more

It seems I've found the right place for number 2, 3 and 6.

The most important resolution is "Write it down"! Record everything. Dates, amounts, temps Whatever? You never remember everything correctly. Use BIABacus and scribble on the printout. Keep all brew session details and log it into a book.
tap 1 Raspberry wine
tap 2 Bourbon Barrel Porter
tap 3 Czech Pilsner
tap 4 Triple IPA 11% ABV

Pipeline: Mulled Cider 10% ABV
