Dicks wheat elixir porter

Post #1 made 13 years ago
Randy Moshers recipe. If you like stout/porter you must brew this. Excellent beer but with terrible head retention unfortunately. I'll say no more
2.3kg wheat malt
1.8kg Munich
1.4kg lager malt
0.7kg medium crystal
0.227kg porridge oats toasted in oven at 150c for 40mins until brown and smelling of cookies
0.17kg black patent malt
14g northern brewer 7% 90mins
14g northern brewer 7% 10mins
10g santiam 6.5% 10mins
One hour mash at 66.5C
Missing info:
19l batch
OG 1.073
I actually ended up with about 21l into fermenter at 1.07
I also ended up adding 80g roasted barley but can't comment on its effect yet. The original was great when I brewed it but I felt a subtle roastiness would be nice

Bob's on his beer diet now Lars so don't listen to a word he says - only listen to me .

See, he forgot to ask the following...

1. What is the OG of the recipe?
2. What is the end of boil volume of the recipe?

Without this info, we have no chance in copying it so if you can find the above maybe edit the original post with it? If not, Bob might brew it but end up with a 2%ABV beer which will not work on that diet :nup:.

Once we have those two numbers, everything else looks okay :salute:.

(To find the end of boil volume, search posts by "Yeasty" that mention "Mosher" as I think he has already worked this out for us ;))
If you have found the above or anything else of value on BIABrewer.info, consider supporting us by getting some BIPs!

In which case he'll just dry hop it with a fifth of Bourbon. ;)

I can't recall looking at any Mosher recipe's. I think PP means Graham Wheeler. if you want any help decoding recipe books just point me in the right direction and I'll have a look.

You guys are incorrigible!

The beer diet is not going well this time. The beer I have on hand is so high in alcohol that I can't drink enough to keep the hunger away. One or two small glasses is enough to keep me off the internet and onto the floor! I have been substituting water (Yuck) and tea? I think next week November 3rd on national "Teach a friend brew day" I will brew my friends super low alcohol beer? We met in Seattle. Dagan Bar Ilan is a brewer from Israel. His beer was tasty, had body and was 1.7 %

Jesus this stuff is beautiful! Bottled a batch of it yesterday and it was beautiful uncarbed straight out of fermenter. Had to stop myself so I'd be ok to collect the kids from school. Had added 80g roasted malt to grain bill and it definitely lenses a subtle hint of roastiness, better than the original.
Brew this beer!
