Might just be my image of Aussies but I can imagine them loading the BBQ and the brewing gear into the loft and saying 'Bring it on!'

The impression from the media Australia vs UK though. UK closes down at the first drop of snow but our cousins just get on with what is needed.

Hey just had a thought.

Even tho I'm 11k miles away I'd still like to help. As our common interest is brewing I was wondering if any forum members were affected and is there a way of finding out so we could provide abit of assistance. I'm assuming that if your flooded out you ain't going to be posting!!
I suppose some sort of Donation fund would be good, anyone got any ideas.

I'll be happy to post links on the UK forums to try and drum up more support.

Yeah, it's a sad state of affairs for our friends up north, but us Aussies will do just about anything to help out our mates.
My deepest condolences for the families who have lost loved ones and hopefully they can find more of the missing people

Thanks for your thoughts and support fellas.

I'm down south as well, while we're getting plenty of rain it's not like what they are getting in Queensland!

There are at least 2 members we have that live in or near Toowoomba which flooded Tuesday, haven't heard from them, so I hope they're ok.

To top it off, in WA were PP lives they are having bush fires! Talk about a country of contrasts.

Thoughts and prayers are with you from England. We saw pictures on our news today of what's happening in Brisbane..truly shocking stuff. I have seen coverage of floods in the UK before but nothing on that scale, seriously scarey.

I got a brew day tomorrow and will dedicate the beer to everyone "down under"

wishing you all the best

Very good of you guys to be thinking about your antipodean cousins :salute:. It is rare for floods here to result in such a number of missing people/fatalities.

Tried to give Ralph a call yesterday in Toowoomba to see how he was going but had no luck. He has a lot to do with the water supply in Queensland so I imagine if his own place isn't in trouble, he's probably pretty occupied. (Hope all is okay for you, Ralph :peace:) Not sure if any Brisbane members have been affected?

hashie, if you get called up to deal with the fires over here, you know where you can get a beer afterwards ;).

Edit: 2xC - all is okay in Tasmania.

Hiya folks, yeah here in sunny Qld its one disaster after another but there seems to some tiny bit of light at the end of the tunnel and some respite from continual devastation is in sight, but there's thousands of people who've lost everything- they're the ones who need our support to rebuild their lives right now. But there's worse, there's some folks we'll never see again- support for the grieving in that case would be the hardest thing of all.
Our water systems have been really knocked around (managing the telemetry data is my bread and butter) but most of the critical water data ended up in the hands of those who needed it most (Bureau of Meteorology and then to emergency responders), but it has been a pretty intense week or so for me as I've been on duty 24/7 and I'm just about ready for an uninterrupted night's sleep (not likely...).
I am lucky I still have my own bed though and a roof, there are thousands out there in temporary emergency accommodation who have nothing to go back to, not even an empty room, so I urge you to please dig deep if you possibly can to help those in need and if you're in the area then check on anyone near you who could really do with a hand right now, even if they say they're all right.
We're a pretty resilient lot though, I've not heard a single instance of anyone saying they will bail out for good, so if we all bang the rocks together and knuckle down, I know we can overcome this.
(If you're wondering where I've been, I only got my comms back this afternoon, but I've had my hands full with this anyway.)

Great to hear from you Ralph :peace:.

Take care mate, get some sleep and we'll look forward to seeing you back when you have had a bit of a rest up which hopefully will be sooner rather than later.

We'll be thinking of you,
PP

Good on you Ralph, this is the mentality and comradery that makes stand up proud to be an Aussie. We take the bad times with the good, look after each other and help out when we can. :peace:

Take care up there, and hopefully the sun will start shining soon!

Glad to see all is well with you Ralph.

I used to work for a Utilities company and was involved in the Carlisle floods a couple of years ago. It wasn't even a spit in the ocean compared to whats happening over there but it openned my eyes to what damage flooding can do. I really feel for you guys as I know this is only the beginning of a long road to recovery.

But hey I'm sure you Aussies are up to it. :)

Good luck and keep safe.

Not as bad as Queensland, but Victoria has been hit by flooding as well, story here.
I know hashie is up in those parts so I hope all is well for him and everyone else in affected areas.
You wouldn't believe that before the last 6 months we had been in drought for 12 years.

I'm ok up here Wiz, thanks for your concern.

Rochester, which is 1/2 hour up the road, is 80% under water. I spent Friday night sandbagging houses around here that were under threat.

Our local reservoir, Lake Eppalock is at 120% capacity :)

Yeah I heard it was bad @ Rochester, my folks are in malmsbury, and they were cut off as the reservoir is flowing fast over the spillway and eventually flooded the main roads
