Welcome meryvn! Lived for many years in Edinburgh and now in South Florida. You'll notice an immediate improvement in the quality of your beer when you switch to BIAB.

Welcome to the site Mervyn.

Some of the people using the site do the small batch BIAB batches (mini BIAB) and seem very happy with it. (My larger 5 U.S. Gallon batches never seem to last long enough...) And if you use the BIABacus (free on this site, based on Excel spreadsheet) it's easy to scale or tweak recipes. Best of luck and let us know if you have questions.

Hello!

I am a web developer from Orange County, California, US. I just celebrated my birthday this past weekend by doing my first brew (a Saison, BIAB style) with a friend who pointed me to this site for further learning.

It looks like there is a great wealth of information here and I am looking forward to learning and being a part of the community!

It is my turn to find a recipe for our next brew in 2 weeks. I'll start digging, but I would love to hear some suggestions

Welcome whexmix, there is definitely a great wealth of info here, and we are looking forward to hearing more from you as well. As far as recipe suggestions go, there are a couple good easy recipes already entered in biabacus that are recommended for brewers just starting out. One an APA and one a Kolsch, but there are also tons of other in the recipe threads, its going to depend on what you like to drink :)

Welcome aboard Whexmix, glad you hit us up. Do check out the the recipe posts as these are proven and have integrity for Biab . If you find something different then please post in the recipe integrity link so that we can proof it for you first. Only helps the beer come out better.

Greetings, I live in Jersey City, NJ. I started brewing in the mid 90's. I got married and had kids and stop. I am now getting back into brewing. I have done two BIABs to date. I went to make what I thought was my second post and realized I had not made my first so hear I am.

Hi all,

I'm Alex from London. I found out about biabrewer from the beersmith forum. I've been brewing for a few years, but I am currently travelling in New Zealand, so haven't had the opportunity to brew for the last 6 months...until now! BIAB seems like a good option although I've never tried it before. My friend has a 30L stockpot, so I'd like to try and get an equipment profile for BIAB setup on beersmith. I'm currently unemployed, but looking for work in Wellington :-)

Hi all,

I'm from Edinburgh and started brewing about a month ago, two biab beers in and I'm firmly hooked. I heard about the site from a podcast somewhere but honestly can't actually remember which one.

Hi, new brewer, starting my 5th batch this weekend. Stumbled across BIAB when doing my research on all grain brewing. After doing lots of reading and digging around, i don't understand why more people don't use this method. So much easier!

I am located in San Francisco, and was drawn to making my own beer because I am tired of all the west coast big hop IPA's. I am more of an ESB/ British Ale kind of guy.

I'm from northern Minnesota. I came across this site just googling for more info on biab. So far it seems like a lot of info to dig through, looking at an established forum is like that :). I've brewed a few dozen extract & speciality grain batches. I'd like too brew more and better brews, but going to traditional all grain right now isn't in the budget. I am hoping biab will help me take it up a notch.

Well lets hope not anyway, my first attempt at homebrew ale after about 15 years gap from home made wine making, its worth noting my last outting with Elderflower champagne did actually explode and left shards of bottle 10" thru my airing cupboard door! :dunno: - I will attempt to be a little safer this time around
So I decided down the BIAB route simply on cost if i'm honest, pricing up a standard starter kit vs an all grain setup, I found a nice supplier in Ireland that would ship to the mainland UK, getting the below (plus bottle cap thingy) for a pricely sum of circa £110 UK Sterling or E150 (Euros)- including delivery!

1 x 32 litre Peco Boiler 2.4kw
1 x Large Nylon Bag made specifically for the peco professional beer makers boiler, dimensions of nylon bag are; 350 x 350 x 380, complete with a drawstring
1 x Copper Wort Chiller
1 x Beer Paddle
1 x 33 litre Fermentation bucket
1 x Airlock
1 x Heat Tolerant Tap
1 x Bottle Filling system
1 x LCD Thermometer
1 x 240g No Rinse Steriliser
1 x Stevenson Reeves Hydrometer plus sampling tube
1 x Stainless Steel False Bottom for Peco boiler
1 x Digital Thermometer for monitoring temperature in the Peco boiler
1 x All Grain Mash Kit

I had a good look round the interweb and although I could have gone DIY, for the price of the above I couldnt see the sense. Added to that if the bug bites (which im sure it will), it leaves some room to upgrade and mix & match. I've seen mixed reviews on the PECO boiler, but im planning on adding some insulation to it and possibly adding a new thermostat if req'd. But im not in any rush

Having been around the site for a few weeks now, the info and advice seems top notch and I look forward to some bright nights and heavy mornings lol.

Any advice appreciated

Hi everybody I'm from Auckland New Zealand, decided to have go at all grain after several extract brews. Mainly interested in Belgian style or dark beers such as porter or stout. After looking at buying a large brew pot and burner and mash tun, have decided as I only brew 12-15 litres at a time thought a T500 boiler with BIAB might be an option (have even toyed with the idea of converting it into a RIMS got the pump already just need to buy an STC 1000) anyone have any thoughts on the matter (good, bad, indifferent??)

Hi savu and welcome aboard! I am a fan of the Belgian styles as well, you will find your options for tweaking recipes and designing your own really open up once you start doing all grain with BIAB. I have never brewed on a RIMS system, since I get good results without I've never felt the need to look into it, but there are several folks around here who do or have tried. There is a topic dedicated to biab automation, so have a look around there. Happy brewing!

Hi all,

My name's Geoffrey, I'm 42 and from Belgium.

I'm going to begin to brew full-grains with a BIAB solution because it seems to be "the best" one for me :thumbs:

I've already brewed 2 times with "kit in can" ( I don't know how you say in English :blush: ) and the results where drinkable but not really good :interesting:

I hope to find in this forum hints and advice to make good beers.

Hi, my name is Matt and I'm from Larned, Kansas, USA. I've done a few extract kits and have been looking to getting into all grain for a while now. After a lot of concideriation and time I believe BIAB is by far my best option. I stumbled across this site a while back while doing some research for my setup and have finally decided to become a member.
