Suggestins needed for Caribou Slobber

Post #1 made 10 years ago
Howdy,

Earlier I posted a note regarding my first BIAB, http://biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3344

Mad_Scientist kindly pointed out some reasons for my low original gravity. Yesterday, I racked to a secondary and my gravity was 1.007 bringing my ABV to around 4.5. I'm assuming that I might get a little more attenuation, but not much, so I'm expecting a sweeter beer than expected.

Do you have any suggestions in balancing my brew? I've never dry hopped before, is this a viable solution? If so what type of hop do you recommend?

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, lower than expected OG with more attenuation than expected will produce a beer that is drier than expected ... not sweeter.

That does seem a little dry Greg. Was that with the supplied Windsor yeast too?

1.045 to 1.007 is approx 5% ABV with 84% attenuation. I would have expected windsor to stop around 70% attenuation.
Could there be a measurement error?

I think I read it right, but hell I'm wacky anyway, my refractometer readings were from 11 down to 5.5. I thought it was about 4.0 ABV. I think the recipe is supposed to come out a little above 4.5 and I've done a search and people are posting their readings all over the place.
The OG and FG were both supposed to be higher than mine. Thanks for the help.

11Bx (1.0424) to 5.5Bx (1.0107) seems about right for 4% and attenuation in the right area for Windsor too (73%).

As for your OP about balancing; I would give it a taste and see if you think it needs anything.
Although it is not as strong as expected, it still may be a great beer as is.
