Sorry injac, I'm not well-versed in BIABacus so I can't offer an opinion but one of our resident experts should be along very shorty to sort this out for you.

Injac, the recipe looks good.

It should be a easy to drink, Pale Ale, with a Moderate Hoppy Flavor, and a good Malt finish.

Right side. But, you have kettle efficiency set to 70% in sec. X. Why? The BIABacus predicts 84.4% kettle efficiency for this brew on your system.

I also do not know the original recipe, so I can't tell you if it's entered properly.

Good spot Rick. Have got rid of that and the substitute amounts look good now. Reattached for reference.

Injac, Attached is an updated version showing the "Original Recipe" as percentages, and the right side as "What you will use" as the spreadsheet determine for 1.045SG

It is a little better to enter the recipe as a ratio or Percentage, of grains used.

Rick, Yeasty's recipe was the original 1.3 Version and was updated to the 1.3K version, the difference may be due to the 1.3T version we are using now. or Not......

Yeasty's post was made just about a year ago while 1.3K was already out, and I don't think that specific calculation has changed since I've been posting here (nearly 2 years now).

The only thing that I know has changed from K to T is the liquor retained by grain formula, which has an effect on grain totals and TWN. All figures after the bag is pulled should still be the same as they were back then.

Oh heck right think I know where I've gone wrong with the VAW - I was originally copying the 19l recipe so this value is left over from that. How should I adjust?

Two important things in your question injac...

Yep, the right side of the BIABacus is what you should have bought/added to your brew. Same with the hops. The left side tells you the 'blend' or ratios.

The VAW tells you how much wort the original brewer made (you've typed 18.7 but in the post Rick linked, it should be 18.27 L).

The blend and VAW used are the two pieces of critical information needed to copy a recipe with any sort of success but this info is usually very hard to find in most recipes external to this site. Luckily, You do have the above info from the original recipe (the blends/weights/amounts/ratios and 18.27 L of VAW). Once you have typed in the grain blend (easy in this case as it is 100% Maris Otter or just type 3000) and the hop blend on the left of Sections C and D and the VAW at the top of Section D, the recipe has integrity and the BIABacus will allow you to alter it in a couple of seconds to suit your equipment and available hops.

For example, in the files I have looked at above, you have, in Section B, a Desired VIF of 15 L. If someone else has a bigger sistem than you do, all they have to do is type in their desired VIF and everything will change on the right.

Make sense?

....

One other issue that you need to be aware of is that the hops you will use in your brew will rarely be of the same AA% as those the original brewer used. So, make sure you type in the AA% of the hops you buy or have into the right hand side of Section D.

:peace:
