Another Brit here who came accross your site being referenced on all of the UK home brew sites.
This site is an amazing resource and i am loving the empirical approach that you guys have bought to brewing, I did find it a little hard to figure out where a lot of the information was but it looks as if you are getting there with that too.
I have previously done a couple of extract and tweaked kit, brews but it was more so that i had a frame of reference than anything else.
I was going to buy a Braumeister but after spending a number of weeks reading the site here decided to get a open box Buffalo 40L boiler for £50 to which i will make a couple of minor modifications to (i am a solutions architect by trade so shiny gadgets are always fun to play with); this arrived this week so I will be looking to brew with it in the next couple of weeks.
My wife is German and going there opened my eyes a lot to some of the other styles of German/Czech beer that i had never been exposed to before (Schwarzbier/Bock/Dunkel/Gose etc); I regularly go to the Bavarian Banhof in Leipzig to eat and drink, only recently finding out realising that the Gose there is one of only a handful of places where it is brewed in Germany. It is also fun introducing some of the great British beers to her family when they are over.

Oh and i have a question PP about your recipe for Schwarzbier but I will save that for the correct thread ;)

Hey all!

I live in London and have been brewing for a few years now, very amateurly though. I've tried a kit and made some blackberry wines picked from my garden, as well as a bit of experimentation.

My next project is to make a golden pale ale. I did a small tour of microbreweries in hackney to find my taste, and ended up getting some advice and crystal malt from the guys at CRATE! many thanks to them.

They reccomended i skipped extract and go straigt for all-grain biab. So here we go! trying to get my head around a much more technical brewing than ive been used to.

Hey teabru, welcome aboard! I'd say you got a good recommendation there to go straight to BIAB, its not as daunting as it may seem at first, and the info you need to get started and make great beer is all here on this forum. Grab a beer and look around, and Happy Brewing!

Hello... Brad here from Warren,OH, USA. I have been brewing for several years now mostly extract and partial mash home brews. Last weekend I did by first all grain BIAB and all went pretty well for the most part. Since then I discovered this site and started to work on a new brew using the BIABacus program. I am having some questions about some of the numbers I am getting so I am wondering where on this forum I should post my BIABacus file and questions to try to get some help.

Hi,I'm from N.Wales and have been brewing since last summer, done a few kits and 2 extract beers and hoping BIAB will take me to another level without taking up too much of my time.The advice here been spot on cant wait to get up and running :drink: :drink: :drink:

Welcome Jbush and Eurwynf1! I think you will both find that BIAB is not much more of a stretch than kits or extract process wise, but the flexibility and quality of the beer you will make will far surpass kits and extract. All the info you could possibly need on BIAB is here, and if you can't find it just ask. Happy Brewing!

Hi everyone,

I’m originally from just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. About 3 years ago I moved to Kinsale, Co. Cork, Ireland for an international assignment my wife received with her company. I used to work in pharmaceuticals but have happily taken on homemaking responsibilities (with mixed success).

I've been brewing for about 7 years now, though some of my batches have been 6 months or more apart. I started all-grain brewing about 1 year ago and completed 6 x ~35L batches. My current system is a 65L HLT, 65L MLT cooler, and a 65L BK. The HLT and BK are heated with propane. I also keg my brews.

Up until recently my ultimate brewery would have been a single tier electric system modeled after Kal’s The Electric Brewery build. I really like his attention to deal, the systems repeatability and how the brewery just works. However, I’ve started reconsidering that goal. The cleaning and successful upgrading of equipment has been a real turn off for me and I brew less often than I’d like to as a result. I am also lacking a permanent home for my equipment so I have to get everything out of storage in my shed, set it all up, and put it back after brewing. I know, first world problems.

After reading a bit about BIAB it strikes me as a potential solution that would let me brew more frequently. I’d really like to brew at least every 2 weeks. For some reason, I initially assumed BIAB was a short cut to 3 vessel all-grain and would yield lesser results. That was an issue for me, I want to make excellent beer. But the more I learn about it the more excited I get about BIAB. My current plan is to install a ULWD element in my original extract kettle (~37 L) and go from there.

I’ll be sure to update as I get my equipment sorted. I’m sure I’ll have plenty of questions between now and then but I have a severe itch to get started so hopefully it won’t be too long.

Nice first post Jon and welcome to the forum. You are correct about the cleanup and simplicity with BIAB, since cleaning is such a big part of brewing it is nice to minimize it as much as possible and BIAB is great for this. Like you, I also have to store my equipment between brews and it is definitely nice to only have to lug one vessel around.
There is tons of quality info on BIAB on this site, if you can't find what you are looking for just ask!

Hi everyone

I'm in the UK and new to BIAB after the missus bought me a kit for crimbo (result!). Tried a couple of kits back in the '70s and gave up = even I couldn't drink it.

Hey everyone, I just stumbled across this site looking for tips on BIAB brewing and think it is just what the doctor ordered. I am from the Midwestern United States. I started on Mr. Beer kits, did one extract kit w/ specialty grains, and am now on my third BIAB batch. I live in an apartment so BIAB is perfect for my situation. I just built a 42 qt electric brew kettle with two 1500 watt water heater elements and am quite proud of it! I work full time as a plumber's apprentice so am mostly limited to brewing on weekends :dunno: Thanks for the opportunity to be part of this awesome community and happy brewing!

Hi I'm Mälte and from Sweden.

I just started brewing this fall. After a while I wanted to simplify it and went for the Biabmethod. As always I go all in and I already have have taught several friends to brew.
I like beer, chemistry and the pure knowing of how to do things. Another aspect is the one of being able to do things on your own. Eggs, meat, berries, apples some vegetables do I grow or kill myself. And now it's the time for good homemade brew.
I will probably be intense until I know a lot and then I'll back off.
I'll already been to some breweries and even taught some friends to brew.
A year a go was it the great forum badgerandblade I enjoyed. I'll hope to enjoy this even more.

I'll hope to get good advice and have fun.

Hallå, alla hemmabryggare därute! (Swedish for: Hello, all you home-brewers out there!)
I am a middle-aged Swede living in Stockholm (capital of Sweden) and have been busy raising kids and working (in the health care sector) for the last 20 years. Since my son is off to university and my daughter is soon to follow I have started brewing beer as a hobby. I am truly a beginner – have made three batches (extracts) – to learn the “cold side” of home-brewing and is no reading “everything” about BIAB. If everything work-out according to plan I will brew my first batch of BIAB sometime before the summer!

Welcome to the board rili! All the info you need to get started is here on this site. Once you get started all the info you need to tweak your process, improve your methods, and pretty much anything else about BIAB is here as well. Jump in and give it a try, it's really not that difficult to make awesome beer, and if you have any questions just ask. Happy Brewing!
