Hello All,

I am quite a new homebrewer. Have about 5 batches under my belt so far, all have been the traditional method (cooler mashtun etc.) Heard about this website through the Basic Brewing podcast (huge fan). I am a blackbelt in brazilian jiujitsu, love all types of beer, and hope to make a lot more. I'll probably need to start running more often too......

Hey Dave.. besides the 'formal' welcome..

Now that you are here.. you might consider, optional, adding your Location to the Profile. It often comes in handy when making suggestions. Often difficult to find it by doing searches, etc. Heck, even add your name to a signature file. All found at User Control Panel (upper left of this page) then go to Profile.

Cheers, Bill

Wow, that was a fast response. Thanks for updating your location. Until about 5 yrs ago we used to visit your area pretty often. Our son was stationed at Vandenburg AFB.. Been in Germany now for almost 5 yrs.. Ready for the family to be back in the states.

We are fortunate with the breweries we have up here.. Russian River, Lagunitas and Bear Republic all in one small area.. also, quite a number of much smaller breweries.. It's a mecca :) The neat thing is that Vinny is going to give our local brewing club a great tour of their main brewing facility. I've been to the brewery that everyone familiar with RR knows about in downtown Santa Rosa. Looking forward to the main facility in a couple of weeks.

Cheers,
Bill

Hi All,

1. Where are you from? I'm James and from England and moved to the South side of Brisbane about 4 years ago, Love the whole Australian way of life.
2. How did you stumble across the site? I want to get into BIAB and found this site through google.
3. What you think of it so far? Need some more time to look around.
4. Have you brewed at all before. If so, for how long and what method are you currently using? I have brewed about 20 beers all K&K and have started adding hops, using different yeasts and some partial grains so it is all stepping up!
I started on a coopers fermenter but binned that recently and have a new one, had a bad cider batch. I use cling film over the top rather than an airlock and lid. I ferment in an old fridge and have just added a temp control so have my first controlled batch almost ready for keging. This year I built a keezer out of an upright freezer. Recently bought a 20 liter stock pot and a brew bag so here looking for my first recipe.
5. Do you work? Are you retired or maybe you run a household? I do work, it gets in the way of life too much.

Cheers!
James

Do 1 kit and one stove top 1 gallon all grain brew. enjoyed the 2nd one more than the kit but want to have more beer and fun

Work in the web industry. Been at it since the mid 90s, before there was an internet explorer.

I'm a Burton-upon-Trent based home brewer (got good water to start with!), I've moved on from kits to small scale stove top all grain brewing, now looking to make more of the basic equipment I have with the maxi-biab I've heard about.

Welcome isitbeeroclock, and yes, it is that time here. Lots of info here on maxi-biab, or full volume variations as I think they are calling it now. Read on and brew on!

Cheers from Norway.

I have been brewing for a little more than a year now. I started out with a few extract brews before I jumped straight over too allgrain (BIAB). Since then I have brewed ten batches (5 gallons) of beer.
During this year Norway has experienced beer brewing mania, as in many other countries. Brewshops are poping up, and beer brewing is picked up as a topic on television, books and magazines are writing about craft beer and the homebrewing scene.

In the process of upgrading my electric BIAB-urn, I stumble upon this site through homebrewtalk.com. In that post on homebrewtalk they claimed that biabrewer.info was the first source for BIAB on the worldwideweb. I don't know if this rings true? ;)

So far I think this forum is a great place for exploring BIAB. I especially enjoyed how you define and thus gain clarity what BIAB really is (sparge/no sparge). Reading books and the www, BIAB is often mistakenly referred to as no sparge.
I also think those XL-brewsheets seems very interesting.

I am a healthcare worker of profession, working with mental health.

Thats it for now. I am looking forward to delve deep into this informative realm of biabrewer.info.

Best regards
Rune.

Welcome aboard shoden. This is definitely the best site for BIAB, with several pioneers of the method contributing here regularly. The BIABacus - the spreadsheet you referred to is a very powerful tool to help you plan and execute your brew day, log your measurements and results, clone/design recipes, and more, and do it all consistently. Happy brewing!

Cheers all.

I'm from Albury/Wodonga on the NSW Vic border and have been brewing off and on since 1995.

I found out about BIABrewer.info after listening to a BeerSmith podcast with Pat Hollingdale.

I started with extracts (after being told to ferment at 30°C) they were not very good.
Most recently I have been fermenting Fresh wort kits in a temperature controlled fridge @ 18°C and these have been great.
Wanting to delve deeper has brought me here.

I recently purchased a 72 litre pot and all of the other bits to make a start at BIAB. Double batches are the plan.
I've just finished building a dedicated brew stand with a light weight block & tackle arrangement to hoist the hot bag.
I plan to do my first all grain BIAB this weekend.

I'm a self employed photographer so my time is pretty flexible and I've built a large Shed/Studio/workshop/Home brewery/flexible space at home.
I'm looking forward to exploring the site and learning heaps.

Greetings from Portland, Oregon. Totally new to brewing but have collected the basic gear and knowledge for BIAB. Have welded a brew stand, got a 10 gallon SS kettle with a Blichmann brewmometer, 3 piece ball valve etc. Brew bag, hop basket with strainer bag in possession. Plan to use a hot plate installed on the stand for mash temp, and a propane burner for the boil, all tested and work great. Immersion chiller has been completed and tested (boil to 70 degrees F in 10 minutes), stir plate just awaits the stir bar. With an brew experienced co-workers guidance, I feel fairly confident to attempt my first batch in the New Year... probably a 1-2 hop American Amber to suit the wife's tastes, with more hop defined efforts to follow. Looking forward to downloading BIABacus and doing some mock calculations. Been in the planning phase for 4 months now and stoked about actually brewing something.

Hey TM.. welcome. Spent some time in your area this past summer. Stayed in Sisters for two weeks and spent most of our time in Bend at the breweries.. did the beer trail and got the sili cup. Did it last year too. Crux is still my fav altho we spent a LOT of time at Deschutes. We only spent a week at an RV park (Portland/Fairview) Bought a couple of bicycles in Portland and visited a few breweries. Hair of the Dog stands out.. but we only got to visit about three. Next summer.. Portland.. Look out.

Happy holidays everyone.

My name is Jesse, and I'm currently living in Las Vegas. I recently caught the brew bug and started making extract batches. After a few months of being underwhelmed I talked to a friend about doing BIAB. Once I started doing some homework and research I came across this website and couldn't be happier. When I'm not at work (I'm an instructor in the military) I enjoy drinking good beer, watching and playing hockey or relaxing with my wife. I just bought the ingredients for my first BIAB, and first all grain batch that I will be making tomorrow. I look forward to joining the forum discussions and trying out BIABacus. Thanks for your time and take care.

Jesse

Hi Jesse.. What branch of military are you in? My son is in the USAF.. We are hoping he get's repositioned back in the states early next year.

Anyhow, re your underwhelming experiences with extracts. You CAN make excellent beer with extracts.. you just don't have the flexibility you have with all grain. There can be a number of reasons for your 'failures'. Temperature and sanitation are at the TOP of the list. Water is the biggest component of beer.. and that could, and might be, the issue. So switching to AG may not help much.. depending on WHY you were underwhelmed. You'll get a lot of very good help here breaking into BIAB.. Welcome
