cooling mishap

Post #1 made 11 years ago
Hi all. I was cooling a brew the other day with my home made copper coils with tap water, I had connected the poly hose to the pipes but didnt put clamps on them as in past the other hoses had been tight enough and didnt expand as these did with the hot wort. I tuned the tap on a bit high and water leaked down the side of the copper into the pot , I didnt notice the increase of water it went up from 21 lt to 23 lt . My question is will the water ruin the brew or will it just dilute it. I will take more care in the future. Thanks for any help you experts can give . Happy brewing Ian

Welcome to the forum Ian :salute:,

I think you should be fine on this unless the water from your hose tastes really awful. One member here, BobBrews, did have a problem with this but I am unsure of what cooling water/hose he was using. It is very unlikely, especially if you are pitching immediately, that any other bug would supersede your yeast.

All should be good with a tad of luck ;).

I had a leak into my pot with well water. Three batches in a row where dumped because of infection until I saw where it came from. I have no-chilled ever since and have a perfect record (and medals) to prove it! Don't let un-sanitized water into your un-fermented wort! Bad things could happen? If it's well water it will fail!
tap 1 Raspberry wine
tap 2 Bourbon Barrel Porter
tap 3 Czech Pilsner
tap 4 Triple IPA 11% ABV

Pipeline: Mulled Cider 10% ABV
