Sounds like you've got your bases covered Dave. You might end up converting your buddy to BIAB when he sees how easy it is. Be aware that with BIAB you don't need your strike water as hot as you would with traditional AG because it's a full volume mash. The BIABacus will help with this.

Let us know how you make out

Will do. We've been playing around with BeerSmith and I think I've finally got it figured out. I have to say BIABacus looks pretty intimidating to a newbie. I'm trying to see if I can use it though. I don't use anything but iPads at home so my first challenge is trying to figure out a way to use it on there. Excel just let's me view files and I won't be able to save new stuff. Anyone else use it on an iPad that's found a good app to let you use it fully?

Hello everyone, I'm from RI USA. I found you guys on another beer forum. I have never brewed in a bag before but I'm going to try it and this looks like the best place to get info about it. Cheers

Hey everyone,
My name is Dave and I am new to Biab. Just setting up a stove top apartment brewery right now with a 5 gallon kettle.

Davemci, Dave83, Welcome to the world BIAB headquarters. That's three new Dave's in a row! This is the best place to find info on BIAB. Now read the entire site and report back in 2 years... Just kidding.

Davemci and Dave83, welcome to the site. Ignore JackRussel, it will only take you a year to get thru the site info  . You guys are really going to love the full volume brewing process. Great beer and a straight forward process. The BIABacus looks overwhelming at first glance but they really made it accessible for newbies like us. Start with a tried and true recipe like the NRB Amarillo Ale or try something from Brewing Classic Styles. Good luck and the gurus here will get you sorted out if you have questions.

Hi everyone,
I'm Brendan (sorry to break the run of Daves). Currently I'm extract brewing but I went out and purchased an urn and am going to give BIAB a go. Can't wait to start making beer from scratch.
I love all the nerdy bits of brewing but mostly I just love kicking back and sharing a brew I made with some mates.
So much information on here, I'm really looking forward to absorbing even a little of it.
Cheers

Hello hello,

First post here, I'm new to BIAB and planning out my first batch. I've brewed several extract batches but I've been itching to go all-grain. Finally have all of my equiment for BIAB, and I'm in search of a good recipe. Hopefully an Amber or APA.

I'm located in Boston!

Hello Matt and welcome to the forum. Search the forum for the recipe NRB Amarillo Ale. That recipe is usually recommended on here. Also, if you have the book Brewing Classic Styles, those recipes are considered of high integrity with a minor tweak that is mentioned on here somewhere. Someone that is better at posting links than me should come along and point you in the right direction or a simple search on here should get you there. Good luck

Hi everyone! I'm an American living in the great State of Virginia. Been brewing for about 15 years now, on and off. Just started using BIAB this year and I love the simplicity and the great beer I've been able to produce. Found your site in a link on the Homebrewtalk.com board, which I read a lot. Right now I have a nice Blonde Ale bottled, and I'll be brewing a Special Bitter in the next few weeks. I was an IT project manager for many years, but chucked all that last year and became a teacher. I now teach high school science. I also like cooking and gardening, and planted my own hops last year which are already getting some little flower buds!

BIAB is definitely a path to great beer!
Take a good look around here and you will find everything you need to help get you to those great beers. If you can't find what you need plenty of great help is just a question away.

Prost!

Hey guys, long time masher, first time biaber here! Did my first biab today. At a local brew club event not long ago I saw my first biab in the flesh. Compared to all the other brew rigs ( 3v with herms setups etc ) I was impressed with how compact it seemed. I brew in the garage and my 3v setup takes up lots of space. I decided I'd give it a try.

So today I did my first one. I intended on a single infusion for a blonde ale but ended up doing a step mash in my gas fired keggle. Was a little tricky but doable and I'd do it again ( I step mash all my beers ).

I had a good jump in efficiency, and my "normal" 3v volumes were hit just fine so l in all a great intro to biab.

Hi everyone,
Adrian from New Zealand here. Living in Melbourne. Have done plenty of kit brews and have been hanging out to move into all grain. Living in an apartment BIAB is ideal. What an awesome source of info here! Have had a bit of a look at BIABacus too. I've just scored an urn and am gathering the last few bits and pieces to get into it.

Hello fellow brewers,

First post here, I just heard about this forum listening to Basic Brewing Radio. I'm from Birmingham, Alabama in the US. I've been brewing for a few months, my first batch ever was bottled in January of 2014. It was an extract batch of IPA, From a Brewers Best kit. That was all it took to light my fire. Since then I have made about six batches, most small batch trials. I am digging up any and all information I can find to help me make that 'perfect' batch. I have done one BIAB batch, well I put a bag in my mash tun... does that count? It seemed to be so much easier, but I was afraid it was 'cheating' so I started looking for more info. There seems to be tons of great ideas here and I can't wait to start uncovering the secrets to a great BIAB brew!

Cheers to everyone,

PBZooM

Hey there fellow beer enthusiasts!!
My name is Sam and I'm currently living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

I found this site by searching brew in a bag....I don't have a ton of money and I want to start brewing all grain so this seemed like a great place to start. I haven't looked around the site too much yet, but I hope to do my first brew in the bag in two days!!

I have been brewing for between two and three years. My first year was only with kits then I moved on to extract and now I want to learn more about all grain!!

Presently I am a professional cook and I love talking food and drink. Seriously...don't get me started unless you have some extra time on your hands.

Hi Sam,

Welcome on board,

This is a great place to learn how to brew efficiently, I won't say cheaply, but I will say, BIAB allows great beer at a very low start up cost.

I too was a chef, but long ago gave it up for the allure of computers, so happy to chat any time.

Take a look at the Begginners threads, a LOT of great info there, and feel free to ask questions.

This site has some of the friendliest brewers on the web :)

Hello all. My name is Rich and I live in Indiana, USA and am currently watching the US Men's National Soccer team play against Azerbaijan. I started brewing around six months ago after getting the Brooklyn BrewShop Beer Making Book. I have brewed five 1 gallon batches. I picked up the book Beer Craft and became interested in doing 1 gallon batches through the BIAB method. I am looking forward to converting a BBS recipe to the BIAB method.
Thanks,
Rich
