Making my first post so as to become a fully registered user. Been doing full volume 5 gal extract brewing for 4 years now - 90-some batches to date. Some kits, some scratch. Been waiting to see if I wanted to invest in AG equipment and time. Probably the same way a lot of people got here. Looking forward to having a go at BIAB.

dke,

BIAB is indeed the best way to brew. Inexpensive, low equipment storage space, quicker and easier to do. Flexible, reliable and scalable. The most interesting thing is that with all these benefits you brew great beer as a added bonus!!

I'm from Gurnee, Illinois USA and I've yet only done extract batches. I really like the idea of BIAB as it makes much sense to me and am excited to give it a go. I've enjoyed checking out the board here so far and hope to make contributions of my own in due time.

Hello, I am currently brewing extract kits and looking to go AG, I discovered the CanadianHomeBrewers forum not long ago and a few posts over there led me here. I like the idea of BIAB a lot since it doesn't require too much expensive equipment. I see there is an abundance of great info on this site that I haven't even scratched the surface of. I am currently only 2 batches in on extract, on in bottles, other still fermenting, and have 2 more kits waiting to be brewed. After those are done, its gonna be BIAB for me. Lots of reading ahead between now and then :drink:

Hello from sunny Scotland.

I just started homebrewing after receiving a kit and FV from the better half at Christmas. While I was fermenting the kit, I did a *lot* of reading and discovered BIAB and this forum. A quick visit to the LHBS later, and I now have a 32 litre pot, a bag, and one AG BIAB attempt under my belt. I just cracked open the first bottle of that attempt even though it has only been 7 days since bottling (the yeast had settled in the bottle, so why not see how it's going), and it blows the kit right out of the water. It's carbing up nicely, and nowhere as "green" as the kit was at that age. I reckon in two more weeks it'll be well into its stride. I lived on the west coast of the US for a while, so naturally my first BIAB had to be a hop forward AIPA, and this 6.8% AIPA with Amarillo, Nelson, and Summit hits the spot nicely. Big citrus nose with hints of passionfruit, but could probably do with a fuller malt backbone. Not bad for the first attempt anyway.

I've got all my ingredients ready for the next brew day, and it's my take on The Kernel's 4c (which is one of my all-time favorite brews). It's a simple grain bill with 92% Golden Promise, 5% Carahell, and 3% Wheat Malt mashed at 66c for a body leaning more to the medium side of things (6.1% abv). The hop bill is 3 parts Citra & Cascade to 1 part Chinook & Columbus (all pellets), with the only boil addition at 20 minutes for my IBUs (46). I'll be steeping/dry hopping at at a rate of 10g per litre, so 95g goes in for a ~40 minute steep/whirlpool when the cooling wort hits 63c, and another 95g goes in for a 3 day dry hop when my SG becomes stable. Needless to say, I'm hoping to stink it up something fierce with this one :D

Hopefully as my experience grows and I become more knowledgable about this fantastic hobby, I'll be able to help and contribute to this brilliant forum. Cheers.

Hello, I live in Dayton, Ohio I've been brewing for 3 years and built a BIAB setup over the last few months and can't wait to start using it. I found this site while reading post on the home brewers site. You have a lot of good information here. Hopefully I'll come up with a good first beer to break in the new setup.

Thanks, Rilewedge

Hello

I'm living in Edinburgh in Scotland where I work in education.

I've done two 11 litre batches of BIAB which was suggested to me after I was having a moan about kits to the chap in the homebrew shop. It's MILES better!!

I'd spent a year before knocking out the kits which never ever turned out particularly good and gave me more beer than I actually needed. Small batch BIAB is the way forward for me as it means I can vary the beers I have at any one time.

I've already used this site to inform my brewing and it seems a pretty vast place (there must be a lot to learn).

hoggyafc,

There is very little to learn. However you can get quite deep into it (if) you want? A bag, a pot and a heat source are all you need for your brewery. Grain comes in handy once in a while too!

Hello, I've just recently come back to home brewing after a break of 20+ years. I re-started with several kits and soon moved on to extract brewing and am now looking to move on to all grain. I quite like the idea of using small batch BIAB, as I like a bit of variation although I only have a 15 litre pot at the moment which may be a bit too small.

Looks like I've got lots of reading to catch up on through the web site!

Hi All,
Been extract brewing for about 4 years. Have recently purchased new equipment and excited to get started with BIAB once the temps warm up a bit here in Pa.. Glad I have found this site and thank you all for the great info provided. I am sure I will have some question along the way and look forward to BIAB brewing.

Thanks
Pete

Hello all,

I've just started my home brewing hobby and have my first BIAB in the primary fermentor now.

Thanks very much for publishing information about the technique. It made my first brew day confident and fun.

Joe.

Cvorider, joejag ,

Welcome to the forum. (I think that is what the Romans said to the Gladiators?) Anyway, BIAB is the perfect brewing method. The only thing bad about BIAB is that it took to long to be discovered!

Built an eBIAB AG setup last year and have about 5 brews under my belt. Really enjoy the simplicity of brewing and quality of beer that the BIAB method provides ... Stumbled onto this site from another homebrew forum and really glad I found it. As simple as BIAB is to brew, I'm still learning and look forward to what this site has to offer a BIAB brewer. I've got a lot of reading to do now :)

Hi All
I am Ron from Independence Missouri, I started with a Mr Beer kit made a few, then went to extract brewing with steeping grains have done that for about 2 yrs, made some tasty brew. Also built my own kezzer three tap system. I work for the local electric co. as a mechanic. I was surfing around some brew sites and seen this biab, decide I needed a new way to brew, all I needed was a bag to brew have all the other stuff. Went to the local brew store got the stuff jumped right in.Read some on here and away we go!!! made two 5 gallon batches ,took some readings they did not match up to what was expected, but oh well it will make beer. they have been fermenting very well and smell nice at the moment.in ferm chamber at 64 degrees F.for 3 weeks then to keg, and brew more. That is about it for me, Thanks for the help already for the site. Thanks Ron

Hello All, Nevets here hailing from New Hampshire, USA
This is my first post but have been sandbagging for months. Gotta say what a great site and many thanks to all who made and continue to make it possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not sure how I heard about this site but when I first started looking into all grain and found out about BIAB, I was very interested in saving time in number of steps and clean up so here I am. I have been an extract brewer for many years and have been able to repeat many a good brews. now it's time to step up to AG and BIaB. My goal is to brew 10 gallon batches, just can't seem to make it fast enough. I have a 48 gallon kettle. more on that later. looking forward to being part of this community. Thanks for everything!!

HI Everyone,

My first BIAB is done, and i just tried a few bottles after shelving for two weeks. Tasted pretty good, but a bit on the thin side.

I think I had too much water, my OG was only 1032.

I really need to get some advice on how to calculate how much water to begin with.

See you all on the forums.

SK.

nevets,skwaler and all.

Welcome and salutations. Lurking around this site is like, trying heroin to see what the big deal is? Once bitten always infected. The day before yesterday I brewed a batch of beer. Yesterday I brewed two batches. Today I brew "Black Bear IPA". 20 gallons (75.7 Liters) in three days. That's not counting 20 gallons in the beer fridge on tap. and 10 gallons of ciders waiting their turn at the tapper. Also various long term mead's and sour beers stored away in dark hiding spots.

Are you sure you want to try that needle in the arm?
