Hey all,

I am form Merrillville,IN USA and I found this site while reading a BIAB thread on HomeBrewTalk forum when someone mentioned this site and here I am!This method of brewing really appeals to me the more I read about it. Currently I do extract & steeping grains and have done about 6 batches so far. Hopefully some day soon I will be able to contribute to this site.

Good to be here

Welcome AJ, moving to ALL Grain BIAB is the great way to brew Great Beer!

To Start, a pot should be about Twice the Volume you want to Bottle/Keg. Aluminum or Stainless steel is FINE!

Hello All

Stumbled across this site when googling BIAB. Until recently I didn't realise that was what I was currently doing!

I have brewed for years, but recently went off on one. I sold my 5 gallon all grain kit on eBay and reinvested in a 1 gallon set up. I have documented what I have done here: http://www.picobrew.co.uk (apologies if posting links by newbies is frowned upon, mods feels free to delete)

Anyway, I would love to hear if anyone else has tried downsizing like this - on the hunt for new recipes too.

Cheers!
Lee

Greetings!

Originally from Seattle Washington USA I now live about 180 miles South near the border of the state of Oregon.
I've worked residential construction for the majority of my life and presently I doing the "Stay at Home Dad" thing with new kid and studying computer networking.
I got into brewing a little less than a year ago and so far have brewed about 8 batches of extract and decided it's time to move forward! On this past Father's Day my kids all got together and bought me a 20 gallon Blichman kettle so I could learn to make "real beer" and after a lot of reading I decided that BIAB was the best route for me to take!
It was in trying to convert some recipes I've found, over to BIAB that I stumbled upon this site in looking for answers. Presently I feel totally lost in trying to make the change and am overwhelmed with all the math, conversions, etc!
After looking around this site though I feel like I've really come to the right place and I'm looking forward to learning and maybe a little socializing with your group!

Thanks for having me!!!

Ravenson,

Welcome to the easiest way to brew. Don't worry about the math stuff! I am math poor and experience rich. Grind it and dump it in the bag. Soak it in the pot and your done. The rest is the same as any other (old fashioned) method. Cheers and welcome.

Hi,

As a new user you've asked me to post some answers.
Well, here we go.

1. Where are you from?
I'm from a little village in Friesland, the North of the Netherlands.
2. How did you stumble across the site?
As a starting extract homebrewer owning 1 pot I was looking for a method to start All Grain and found this site using Google.
3. What you think of it so far?
Lots of information, lots of people.
4. Have you brewed at all before. If so, for how long and what method are you currently using?
Just started a couple of months ago and made some awesome first brews using extracts.
5. Do you work? Are you retired or maybe you run a household?
Working in IT during the day, brewing in the weekend.

Well, that's it for now. More later.

Hi all,
I'm from Melbourne and I've just done my first BIAB brew after years of extract brewing. In the past I've been put off all grain brewing due to the extra time and equipment required (also living in a small apartment when I first started didn't help). Then I went to a BIAB demo put on by my local home brew shop and liked the simplicity of the method. After some internet research (including coming across this site), I gave the NRB amarilllo pale ale recipe a go using a 30 L pot on my stove. Everything went well and the brew is now bubbling away in my primary. The only problem I had was not hitting the end-of-boil volume after the 90 min boil-I was about 1.5 L over (and consequently my starting gravity was a bit lower than expected, 1.054 instead of 1.058). Next time, I'll have my rolling boil a bit stronger (and keep an eye on the volume during the boil). I thought about boiling longer but thought that might stuff up the hopping schedule.
Anyway, thanks for BIABrewer.info for all the advice.

Hello all. John from Westminster, CO here. I love the idea of a simple way to brew small batches as I experiment with the tastes I like. I am not interested in producing classic styles. I just want to try new things and see what I like.

Hello - I'm from Rochester, MN. I've brewed a few extract batches and recently a couple of BIAB batches that are bubbling away in primaries. I'm interested in BIAB mostly because of its simplicity.

I hope to get some good tips on how to brew year around in very cold climates(-20F!). I'm considering going to electric, but fearful of the controller cost, etc. I'm a computer programmer by trade so maybe I can 'brew my own' controller as well. ;)

I look forward to meeting many of you and cheers to many successful batches of BIAB beer!

Hi All

I am from Sydney, Australia and it's good to be here. I am currently brewing extract / steeped grains and want to get into grain brewing but don't have too much space. I think BIAB may be the answer so I'm looking forward to finding out more and getting into it!

Hello,

I am from Sterling Heights, MI and recently started brewing again after a 10-year hiatus. I've only brewed extract thus far, but am excited to try BIAB to move up to all-grain. I look forward to being active in this forum because I have so much to learn and want to make new friends here.

Just found the site. I've been brewing on an electric Kal clone, The Electric Brewery, and tried my first BIAB last week. Intrigued by shortening the brew day and the simplicity. I went from a 7-8 hour day to a 4 hour day! I am looking for ways to keep mash temp up. I lost a lot of heat during the mash even with it covered with a sleeping bag. And I am looking for ideas how to use the electric element without scorching the grain or bag. I'll keep looking and reading, but if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Cheers!
