Aloha from Hawaii!
I heard about this site on Homebrew Talk and it seems to be just what I am looking for. I've done a couple of extract brews but I'm looking at moving to BIAB for the fun, lower cost, and leftover grains to feed my animals. I work full time and split my time between Oahu and the Big Island (island of Hawaii) and travel quite a bit around the Pacific region.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot more around here.

Good Day Brundoggie, Welcome to the Forum!

BIAB is the best way to move from Extract to All-Grain.

You understand all the things that make BIAB great.

I hope you have time to brew soon, Good Luck!

Hi, I'm Jeff.

I'm in Portland, Oregon, USA. I've been brewing for only a few months, all extract & speciality grains so far. I've been making up my own recipes, though, and really having a blast! This morning I brewed a mild ale which is really an experiment -- no idea if it will be drinkable!

I've been wanting to get into all grain brewing, but don't want to go nuts with the equipment -- plus I live in a fairly small house! This seems like a great place to get the BIAB fundamentals, and then go way beyond.

I'm a web developer and work from home. I've even done a few brews while programming! (enforced stand up and stretch breaks!)

Hi Everyone,

I discovered your site through a link from HomeBrewTalk. I've been brewing small, 1-gallon AG batches now for about 10 months, using a process I first learned from a BBS starter kit. I typically brew two separate one gallon batches whenever I brew, which makes for kind of a long day; I'm interested in experimenting with BIAB to see if it streamlines the process a bit.

Thanks!

Hello all from the middle of the USA.

I've been absorbing info from this site for awhile now.

I've been brewing for about 15 years and it's mostly been on a scratch-built 2-tier 10 gallon sculpture. The last three years or so I've been brewing less and less and I'm not sure why.

I had the opportunity to teach a non-credit brewing class this spring at our local University. The class was only 3 hours long so I was looking for a way to demonstrate all-grain is this time frame. I had heard about BIAB from a Brewing Network interview awhile back and one of my fellow brew club members was messing around with it so I decided to give it a try.

I did two batches before the class to see how it would go and one batch in class, and now three batches after. The brew sculpture has not been used in this time. I've done more BIAB batches this spring than all the batches on the big system in two years. I love it. All the apprehension from my perceived negatives was unfounded. I get higher efficiency in less time, MUCH less time. BIAB has reignited my brewing passion and I thank you all for that.

I'm giving a BIAB Tech Topic at my homebrew club meeting tonight to spread the love.

I use Beer Alchemy on the Mac and then input the total grain & hop weight into http://www.simplebiabcalculator.com to get my strike water volume and temperature. This has been accurate enough for me and is as simple as it gets.

-Chris

1. Where are you from?
South East Queensland, Australia.

2. How did you stumble across the site?
I think I was trying to get some info from the AHB forums and followed a link here. It was only earlier that day that I decoded the mysterious 'BIAB' that people kept mentioning.

3. What you think of it so far?
Seems very informative so far, I guess I need to figure out how to post questions.

4. Have you brewed at all before. If so, for how long and what method are you currently using?
I've done four extract brews using hopped extracts (the most common in Aus) Started Experimenting with the second one so I've done a Dark Ale, Chilli Ale, IPA and something else that's probably also an IPA???

5. Do you work? Are you retired or maybe you run a household?
I work as an Environment Officer in local government. Contract runs out in a month, so I'm stocking up on homebrew to keep me hydrated while I'm unemployed.

You should find that BIAB has much more to offer than using just extract.

And..Whether you are working or not, It is always a good time to brew!!

Thanks for the welcome and the info Josh. Couldn't agree more about always being a great time to brew.

I'm definitely looking forward to getting into the miraculous world of BIAB or variants thereof. I think kits get a pretty bad wrap, but I agree with you about the greater opportunities involved in BIAB

Can't wait to get set up and start buying some grain...

Have decided to.BIAB as it seams a really good method and lots of people are producing really good beer from it
Have been reading a few books and am planning some GW recipes. landlord most likely being my first as it is my fav. Will probably be looking some advice as I have still to work out initial volumes and how to use a calculator. Really love the site.

Hey all, coming at you from Astana, Kazakhstan. In less than a month I'm getting transferred to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. I was poking around Northern Brewer Brewing TV and watched the BIAB video and ended up here. I'm definitely trying this when I get my gear delivered and unpack from the big move across Central Asia. I've been extract brewing for a little over a year now - as a survival method from all the mediocre lagers that only line the shelves here. Since I get all my supplies via diplomatic pouch/mail, and there is a strict no liquids rule, I can only use DME recipes or go all-grain. I don't have the equipment for all-grain, so BIAB is a no-brainer. I can't wait to try this out!

Post #2571 made 13 years ago
Good Day DividedSky99, Welcome to the Forum....

People say life is tough...Looks like you have a tough One!!

Since you have done DME, you have most everything for BIAB, except a BIG bag.

All-Grain BIAB is almost as easy as DME with some special grains.

Take a look around the site, and when you have questions, please Post and we can help!

Hello! I am in Cambridge, MA, USA and itching to give biab a shot. After a few extract/specialty grain batches, one mini-biab, and one partial mash, I think a 5 gallon biab is the definitive next step.

Good Day JustDave, Welcome to the forum!

Great to here your moving to BIAB, Many All Grain kits can be done BIAB.

Your Idea of brewing a BIG batch, and going No-chill is the best way to brew with little time

Do the brewing on the day off, Go no-chill for many weeks or months,(many of us do) and pitch the yeast and ferment when ever you can!

There are no inane questions here, BIAB is changing quickly, so keeping up to date, means Questions!!

Good Luck.
