Welcome aboard fellow Perth resident, Chris, and also all the other new members above
,
Chris, I meant to do a brew day here in Perth early this year, but with this weather, I think March is looking like a much more sensible date
.
Hope you have some air-conditioning!

Trying to learn about BIAB so I can stop brewing extracts. Everyone keeps pointing to this site!

Hi everyone, I'm from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
I came here after discussing BIAB with my homebrewing group over here (Members of Barleyment)
I've done extract and partial mash stuff myself alone, but I've done a few all grain and BIAB brews, I settled on BIAB as much target choice.
I'm a software developer, so employed

Good Day RoundHoundBrew, Welcome to the Site. BIAB is the way to jump to All-Grain from Extract!
Take a look at the Electric BIAB and Gas BIAB topics, and look over MAXI-BAIB and MINI-BAIB topics and see the many ways to brew All-Grain.
Post any questions you may have, and we will answer.

Hi all I am from Suffolk in the UK and have only been brewing for about a year. So far I have done about 6 kits and I am thinking
about and trying to get the confidence to attempt BIAB and have been trying to read up on it. That is how I stumbled on this site.
I work full time and have 3 children so with BIAB taking less time than AG it appeals as weekend time is mainly spent running around after them. I still have a couple of kits to brew and will keep reading up and hopefully attempt my first BIAB after that.

Good Day PPDarren, Welcome, If you have done kits that used partial mash, then you have already done 90% of a BIAB brew. You can forget about Extract, and think of many ways to use Grains to make great beer.
BIAB can take 4 hours or more to do, but you'll only need to work half that time, since you wait for mash time, water heating time, and cooling time. There is time to do many things while brewing BIAB.
If you have questions, just post, and we can answer.

Hello all! I am originally from the southeastern (central gulf coast) US, but have lived outside of Washington, DC, in Virginia, for nearly 3 years. I first read about BIAB on another homebrewing website (HBT), and followed rec's from its members here. I was happy to see that there is an entire website dedicated to this practice, as I have reading much about it elsewhere, and with two "steeping" kits under my belt, I am ready to use my first mini mash kit (Tripel Karmeliet clone).
Glad to be aboard!

A friend pointed me to the site.
I currently have a couple old kegs and SS Fitings waiting to be assembled into a Electric BIAB System.
I believe BIAB is the easiest quickest way for me to get started in All Grain brewing; as my space is limited for a multi vessel brew system.
Looking forward to reading/learning the BIAB process.
Ross

Good Day TheTraveller, Welcome Aboard. Biab is MUCH simplier than 3 vessel because it's single vessel, maybe two.
Doing a full electric system is a g0od Idea, Brew indoors, no rain, wind, Bugs or dust!
Look over our topic on Electric Brewing http://www.biabrewer.info/viewforum.php?f=24 and see what others have done!
Let us know if you have anys questions.

Welcome aboard Ross (and novaau and ppdarren etc)
,
One thing a lot of first posts here say or imply is that BIAB is different to all-grain brewing. For example, Ross mentioned, BIAB is the easiest way to get started in all-grain brewing. Getting started can often read as, 'there is something better,' once I have mastered this.
This is an easy mistake to make. However, any new member here should be absolutely confident in the following..
1. BIAB is an all-grain brewing method. (It is not a stepping stone into all-grain.)
2. BIAB (full-volume brewing requiring a single vessel) will give you the same quality beer, or better, than traditional methods.
I, like many others here, used to brew with three vessels but now BIAB. So, when you enter this forum, don't for a second think that you are not a real all-grain brewer. As you read and learn more (from good sources such as BIABrewer.info) you'll end up seeing that BIAB is actually a very pure all-grain method and I can't think of one test where it didn't come out trumps!
So, new members, be very confident about BIAB. It is, very much, a high quality all-grain method.

Hey all. I'm a fairly new extract brewer with the itch to get into All Grain. The step-up equipment costs have been putting me off, but BIAB seems like an ideal way to get the best of both worlds
Post #2174 made 14 years ago
Hi. I'm from Reading, PA and looking to get into all grain. I'm hoping to learn a bit about BIAB here.

Good Day Peevish, If you have a kettle that is about the size of the Batch you want to do, you will need a mesh bag about the size of your kettle, and you will be able to do BAIB. that is all the basic equipment needed. Look at the MASTER GUIDE and the COMMENTARY and see how we do it.
