Volume in the pot

Post #1 made 15 years ago
I want to mark out a ruler to measure what volume of liquid is in the pot and I thought I remembered seeing a formula here, but I can't seem to find it somewhere. My new pot is quite large at 580mm wide but 480mm high so I think I will struggle to get proper accuracy by just adding a litre of water waiting for it to settle and then marking the ruler. The pot has flat sides & bottom which makes thinks a bit easier

Can anyone help please.

If you input your kettle diameter into The Calculator it will tell you how many liters per cm in your kettle. I just marked a maple stick in .79cm increments and marked them in pen. They are still quite visible after about 20 brews.
P.S..79cm is the increment I get for my 40cm BK

Good Day, I used a file to cut marks in my Aluminum Bar and they read well after 53 batches!

I like the wood stick because:
A: I can lift it out of the mist and still read the liquid ;) level.
B: I have lots of sticks. :P

Thanks Lylo, I knew I i'd seen it somewhere. The stick idea might be a better option.. and yes I've got a stick in the shed that will be perfect for this

Just make sure you don't use the stick to measure the chilled wort as it will be harbouring some nasty critters over time :P.

I never used it once abv taken.
I then forget to write that bit of info down,so I am not sure why I even bother. This last attempt at note taking was going well until I realized that I had left an unknown amount of water in my cube after using it to fill my BK.I should have noticed this except that it had frozen and didn't slosh around when I picked it up.Totally screwed up my volumes amd OG.Oh well I know it is going to be beer.
