A Question on the New Calculator

Post #1 made 14 years ago
Is the new calculator usable yet,or should we be still using the March 2011 version?
I have absolutely no need for an expensive spreadsheet like Excel, and I hope that,if/when it is usable,it will it be compatable with OpenOffice.

Sorry we missed your question until now Lylo.

The new calculator is still being worked on (see the note here). If you are looking for something to keep you going temporarily, I'm pretty sure the one in this post would get you by.

Cheers,
Pat

I don't know an OpenOffice.Org (LibreOffice) version will be released.
That's a serious deficiency IMO. No way I am buying anything from Microsoft....

Yes, the cross-platform difficulties are most annoying. The eventual aim is to produce our own software that will not have these limitations however this is obviously a massive project. The calculator being worked on now is the first step towards this goal and will have the added advantage that it will be accessible to those who have Excel which is the majority of users. We'll take a look at how many hours would be required to convert it to Open Office and, if this won't take too many hours away from working on the main project, we'll do it.

These things take a tremendous amount of labour input unfortunately. In the last 6 weeks, I'd estimate about ten man hours per day have been spent on the new calculator, very possibly more. Before this, a very large amount of hours have been spent either directly on it or on aspects relating to it. We'll try to get everyone happy as soon as we can but it is going to take a long time before this ultimate goal is reached.

Cheers,
Pat

Thanks Pat,I do appreciate the time and effort all of you guys are putting into this and I am sure that is going to be THE software of choice for all of us,and be a great incentive for visitors to decide to join the group. However,,,,does the majority have Excel?
I personally use this forum mainly at home.On my home computer I have absolutley no need (until now) for a $200 spreadsheet program!
I do have this at work but when I'm there my employees are quick to notice that I am working on a brew day calc instead of getting their cutting lists correct and on time!
To reitterate.I really do appreciate the time and effort all of you guys are putting into this and I am sure that is going to be THE software of choice. Maybe I will put off that new burner and those new cornies and cough up for Excel.

Sig,Thanks,I guess that so long as I can do my calcs I will be good with it.I have never been good at learning all the bells and whistles of programs anyway.I learn how to get them to do what I bought them for and then tend to go on to something else.

OpenOffice tends to not support the advanced macro functionality, but the rest of a spreadsheet will work. Depending on how it's done then most of the basics should work in OpenOffice. The trick is to do everything you can before resorting to macros

No mate, they are good questions you are asking. It's the way that the software doesn't work together that is the PITA .
