Hiya folks, yeah here in sunny Qld its one disaster after another but there seems to some tiny bit of light at the end of the tunnel and some respite from continual devastation is in sight, but there's thousands of people who've lost everything- they're the ones who need our support to rebuild their lives right now. But there's worse, there's some folks we'll never see again- support for the grieving in that case would be the hardest thing of all.
Our water systems have been really knocked around (managing the
telemetry data is my bread and butter) but most of the critical water data ended up in the hands of those who needed it most (
Bureau of Meteorology and then to emergency responders), but it has been a pretty intense week or so for me as I've been on duty 24/7 and I'm just about ready for an uninterrupted night's sleep (not likely...).
I am lucky I still have my own bed though and a roof, there are thousands out there in temporary emergency accommodation who have nothing to go back to, not even an empty room, so I urge you to please dig deep if you possibly can to help those in need and if you're in the area then check on anyone near you who could really do with a hand right now, even if they say they're all right.
We're a pretty resilient lot though, I've not heard a single instance of anyone saying they will bail out for good, so if we all bang the rocks together and knuckle down, I know we can overcome this.
(If you're wondering where I've been, I only got my comms back this afternoon, but I've had my hands full with this anyway.)
