'Portable' Stainless Steel pot - UK

Post #1 made 10 years ago
Hi

First an apology! Done my reading and my searching but can't find exactly what I'm looking for BUT happy to admit it's probably my fault. Old and cranky and lacking patience!

Gearing up to start Mini-BIAB - done the kits and want to take things a stage further. Mini due to limited space and resources. Think I've got the gist of things and have a couple of 'local' suppliers for ingredients. What I'm struggling with is finding a reasonably priced stainless steel lidded pot with handles strong enough for it to be moved whilst partly full. Most specifically say you shouldn't try and those that don't confirm that when pressed. Members do what I'm trying to do so they must exist. And without upsetting anyone, I would rather but British if at all possible - someone has to!

Not intending dancing around with 20/30KG of boiling liquor in hand but will need to move the wort to another room to chill. Appreciate economy of scale says go as big as possible but I'm happy to produce less more often.

Maximum pot I'm looking for would be 33L assuming I can comfortably produce 15L-20L of wort. We're hoping to have a new (bespoke) kitchen fitted early 2016 and boil-over doesn't bear thinking about hence need 'plenty of head-room' - hence 33L seemed a good choice?!?

As I started by saying, if I'm covering old ground - sorry. But any directions to previous posts, help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

M

Thanks for the post.

Well ain't that a coincidence! Looking at the Malt Miller site and that very pot not 20 minutes ago.

However, daughter just returned from jollies in Las Vegas with a stop over in NYC. And for my birthday has just handed me a copy of Brooklyn BrewShops Beer Making Book by Stephen Valand & Erica Shea. Now I'm a died in the wool Yorkshire lad and eager to get on with some true English Bitters, Stouts and IPA's but this book - aimed at solely brewing smaller quantities, has really got my attention.

I would scale up from their numbers as brewing a gallon at a time is little use to me but on the other hand - brewing once a week, I also don't need to be churning out 5 gallon brews - well, not yet!! Obviously this means higher costs - particularly as I'm keen to try as wide a range of recipes as possible, but a little forward planning on the grains/hops purchasing side will help.

So the upshot is I only need something over 12 liters to do a 2 gallon brew - 19 litre pots readily available locally so I think that's the route I'll take - particularly as the site shows how to get a full 5 gallon brew out of that size pot in any case.

Will check back in.

Have a good one!

True but SWMBO doesn't realise that the fully-kitted out Utility Room I'm insisting is a good idea is in fact a brew room. She hasn't twigged as yet!!

Won't be in place until Spring next year so will be keeping to smaller brews until ready - then the 70L pot and dedicated burner I've got my eye on can be sneaked through as part of the fit-out cost!!!
