Hi all,
I've brewed (a few weeks ago) a Northern Brewer, Caribou Slobber. This kit came with the BIAB starter kit that I bought from them. I'm thrilled with the kit, unfortunately the Caribou Slobber comes only with this kit, so I won't be able to purchase another of the same brew kit. There are others anyway, maybe I'll get the gut's to make up the Krispy Kolsch you've posted here.
I've tried to input this information into my Beer Smith application. It tries to change my initial water needed to a different volume. I've adjusted the initial pre-mash of water volume so it shows the intended 11.35 Liters / 3 gallon volume in the fermeter. Using the Northern Brewer instructions for this kit which is designed for a 3 gallon batch.
I found that my efficiency (using brewerfriend.com) was 78.69, the efficiency, (I'm sure) was due to the 90 minute mash and the 10 mash out. My batch turned out to be 4 gallons 22 liter-ish. my original gravity was 1.045
if it had the same efficiency. If I wound up with the 3 gallons then I estimate (using brewersfriend.com) my gravity would have been 1.060.
I understand that this isn't kettle efficiency, I'm still stumbling around trying to figure this out, so I'm sure the brewer's friend site is no doubt the wrong place to do this.
I'm trying to figure out the biabacus. It's wonderful, and I'm kind of baffled by all the stuff in there (no criticism of the biabacus)
My real question is: is the 4 gallon instead of 3 gallon due to my not bringing the boil up enough? I did get a boil, but with my stove top, I'm sure it wasn't enough. I'm planning to get a burner for the outside.
Any help, especially with biabacus, would be appreciated. I'm using Beer smith because I paid for the damned thing. And it's timer will come in handy. I didn't use it with this batch, just an "old-timey" timer.
Thanks for all you guys and gals do here at biabrewer.info I love this site and the concept.
Greg
