BIABrewer down

Post #1 made 13 years ago
All

The company that host the BIABrewer.info website suffered a physical failure on one of the database servers, unfortunately the BIABrewer.info database was on that server. They had to rebuild the server and had to restore each database individually - hence the time it took for the site to be up and running again.

All seems to be well again.

Enjoy!

Figured that's what happened. Too bad they lost what appears to be roughly the last 24 hours worth of posts before the crash.

Oh no! Didn't realise that thughes :dunno:. Thanks for letting us know it had gone down Lylo and it wssn't you who broke the site :lol

Btw, in future, to stay up to date in an outage, those on Facebook can search for BIABrewer.info and "Like" the group. Those on Twitter can follow @BIABrewer_info. These two sites are presently just being used for notifications until other major projects are completed here.

Admin will explain what the technical problem was later in this thread. Hopefully no one lost anything too critical
Nuff

The website was spitting out an error page stating that it 1) couldn't connect to the MySQL server, and after they got the db server back up.....2) couldn't locate the database (patch_db). My guess is that the db got hosed when they lost the SQl server and the backup they restored from was at least a day or two old.

*The provider really should disable the error display and configure the server to display a more generic error page.

Hi all,

For anyone who cares about the technical mumbo jumbo, our hosting provider had a failure in one of their RAID controllers that happened to host our database. While they were pretty quick in getting the hardware back online, they had to restore each MySQL service 1 by 1, and they had almost 40 to do. From that 40, that decided to do them in alphabetical order, and our service starts with 'u'.

Unfortunately the best they could do was bring up backups from 24 hours prior, which is less than ideal, but it could have been a lot worse too. That being said, we keep backups once a week, so we wouldn't have lost more than a few days.

With all due credit to the hosting provider, I have been with them for almost 5 years, and this is the first time anything like this has happened. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to hit me up.

Just having a look through my email notifications and here is some info that I know we would have lost. Please feel free to add to the lists and/or bump the topics if you can.

Any newly registered user or PMs over that 24 hours or so will have been lost. Not much we can do there.

My First Post - Hopefully only two new first posts were lost.

Poor Head Retention - A few posts there lost from BrickBrewHaus and dicko from memory.

Use this thread to convert recipes... - Two posts lost there but not sure whose.

Obviously there are more. I'll arrange for someone to bump the above two threads if they think it is needed.

Thanks for the technical update NME and for looking after all this black art stuff so we can just stick to brewing.

Pat
