Is BIAB your first Love

Post #1 made 14 years ago
This question is really intended to be asked as a poll, but I can't seem to be able to do that and its getting late so I will just ask the question. (Mods: Please feel free to make this a poll is you think its worthy)

Going by the number of new members joining BIABrewer.info, BIAB is growing in popularity. This has got me thinking  and I was wondering about the past brewing experience of the members. So my question is what has your path been that led you to BIAB.

As an example, an old hand in there late fourties who has had an interest in brewing for years may have done:

Extract, Partial Mash, 3v, BIAB.

Where as a youngster just starting out may have done:

Extract, BIAB

Some of you may have just BIABed !

I'll post first to get the ball rolling.

K&K
---- (hiatus)
K&B
Extract
Partial Mash (fail = hiatus)
----
K&B
FWK
BIAB/NC

Always had a dream to get a 3V setup, but cost & complexity stopped that

Every now and again I day dream about a fully automated HERMS, but then I snap out of it. I'll get a braumaster if I ever want automation :)

BIAB from the start 6 months ago. BIAB brew #14 planned tomorrow.

When I started reading to learn about brewing I came across Braumeister systems and thought for myself: "Can I do the same with a pasta strainer in my kettle?". Then I stumbled upon BIAB and this site and the rest is history :-)

extract+steeping grains for a few months > BIAB! lost count of how many batches.

3V just looks to me like a great big waste of hardware (=$$$).
Cube:
fermenter: Sourdough Spelt Ale, Classic Lambic, Oud Brune, Barrel Aged Belgian Dubbel
Kegs: Bob's Black IPA, Blanc Blond, Soda...
to be brewed:

2 x K&K only...didn't like it that much and there had to be something better that gave more "I did that" satisfaction.
1 x BIAB under my belt now and looking forward to many many more after the result!!!
No more K&K....BIAB all the way!

KB or K & B = kits and bits. So a kit beer with maybe some steeped grain and some extra hops :)

Great thread Yeasty :peace:

Not sure how you would put this one in a poll either but it would be fascinating to see.

Here you go...

Kits: Always had the 'kit twang' no matter what I did. Made me give up brewing several times. (Only ever tasted a handful of kit beers that didn't have the twang.)
Three-Vessel (Batch-Sparging): Took a while to find clear info on it but what a relief to have no more kit twang .
BIAB: Heaps easier, beer at least as good as the above and can now do two simultaneous brews with one less vessel than the above :champ:
If you have found the above or anything else of value on BIABrewer.info, consider supporting us by getting some BIPs!
