Happy Australia Day

I'm not exactly sure how to celebrate .. back in the day I would have "shot" an oil can of Fosters. Can't ride a dugong where I live - the rugby team here folded - no Bondi Beach.

Maybe I will brew in a bag and no chill !!

Oh yeah - and best wishes to the Aussie soccer team competing for the Asia Cup !!

Lots of things to be proud of I reckon and lots of things to be not so proud of (like most other countries).

I think the thing I'd be most proud of atm, is that, as a general rule, despite what you hear from the media, most Aussies are pretty balanced and compassionate. Others looking in would see a different image though thanks to our current politics. Pretty weird how a nation's leaders can reflect a totally different image of a nation's individuals.

Well - be proud of that soccer team - no matter what happens from here! Many of the pundits are picking them to go all the way. Let's hope that's not bad luck :)

Yeah - that goes way back to beer cans with no 'pop tops' and an opener that we called a 'church key' to punch a triangle hole in the can top. Do they / did they go by that name in Oz?

Anyway, we would punch the top, then turn the can up sort of backwards with your tongue plugging the hole. Then your friend (hmmm .. how much of a friend was he?) would punch a second hole forcing air quickly through the can and into your throat. And of course you do this with an 'oil can' because those were like 24 or 25 ounces.

We didn't know about funnels back then :)
