Northern Brewer now selling BIAB starter kit

Post #1 made 13 years ago
Not sure if you guys saw the BIAB video that Northern Brewer/Brewing TV did in January 2012, but they seemed pretty enamored with this method.

Here's the video: http://www.northernbrewer.com/connect/e ... nd-new-bag

Now they are carrying a BIAB starter kit:

...and recipe kits aimed at this 3 Gallon set up are coming!!!
See: http://www.northernbrewer.com/connect/2 ... brown-ale/

I think it's quite significant that they are validating what we've known, and endorsing it! Street cred!

Good to see they are on the band wagon, however the following quote cheapens the whole exercise
Whether you’re an extract brewer looking to ease into all-grain...
That quote suggests that it is not real all grain brewing.

Maybe I'm just being pedantic :)

Yes, that caveat I always see about BIAB being a means to "step up" to "real" AG brewing always makes my blood boil. OTOH, if it gets folks to try BIAB, perhaps they will realize that they ARE doing AG brewing and they might be less likely to feel the need to buy a bunch more equipment to "advance" to "real AG brewing" only to discover that they only adding a bunch of complication to do the same thing they were doing with the bag. ;-)

Maybe we're all just too sensitive about it. I think once a new-AG'er realizes he can make great beer via BIAB that's just as good as with a 3V system, he's going to question the value of spending lots of money on a separate mash tun and BK.

If I was in the business of selling brewing equipment, I'd want to downplay BIAB also, since there's not as much money to make when 2/3 of the hardware (or more) goes away!
