PP, :shoot:

James class was fun as you would expect it would be. He is a natural speaker with good presentation qualities. He used some video from his video website along with pictures. He explained the uses of small batches and the reasons why you would do such a crazy thing? :interesting:
February 28, 2014 - Speedy Homebrewing He used some of this video?
James and Steve brew up a delicious six-pack IPA in less than an hour, from start of brewing to end of cleanup.

We just got the word that the funeral is Thursday at 9:30 am so we will have to find a dog sitter and be on the road by 5 AM. We will be back late Thursday so we can clean up the yard for the Friday arrival of our week end guests. I am not bringing a keg of beer to the funeral because they are Mary's side of the family and I would need (at least) two kegs! :drink:

Hopefully The air conditioning repairman will come by today? The fan won't start when it goes on. I pushed it manually to see if it would revolve (with a long screwdriver) and it revolved with about 85%? force. So I did get some cooling. I let the house get uncomfortably warm and turned the "ON" point to a very low setting so that the air conditioning unit would never reach it and stay on try to bring the temperature down. This week won't be too bad but when the guests come it is suppose to be hot and with high humidity.

Sorry for all this personal drama in the NHC section. To all reading, It was a blast and I am really considering going to San Diego California next June. I will not do a long term wort storage with No-chill again. I think we have proved our point!

Pat, I will Skype you soon and get back to work.

HI Bob

Glad to see your still with us  sorry for your loss though  I just lost my Aunt at 93. Its not good, but its life and the oldies have to make way for the newbies.

Anyway lets get back to the NHBC. As a matter of interest what does it actually cost to attend ? (apart from a divorce) It can't be cheap, what with Flights, hotel, entrance fee food etc. It would be interesting to see the numbers.. :idiot: I forgot you don't do numbers. Tell the wife to PM me :idiot: I forgot you don't let the wife know how much you spend. just post your bank account details and I'll take a look  don't worry this isn't a spam post, I won't let PP know I have them as he doesn't like spam.

:salute:

Yeasty,

Thanks for your words of kindness. It is truly felt. I compiled the information below with some explanations and links for clarification.

Individual 1-Year
U.S. $43 - $52 International
http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/m ... -or-renew/

$38.00 Membership for last year. The price went up for the first time in 12 years this year. You get the magazine and access to the audio recorded for the conferences when posted. So at the very least a good read and access to the other benefits.

http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/m ... -benefits/

$224.00 This is the conference price for 2014. (about average)

$417.00 My Hotel bill from Thursday to Sunday noon check out. $139 per day (3 days) Group rate for the AHA. Lots of taxes and my car parking fee. WIFI is free but I bought hi-speed data that (extra stuff) brought my bill to $505

*** $679 *** :argh: For the membership (which is required) the conference, and the hotel! Now that doesn't include travel and the divorce for you?

This year the conference will be in San Diego, California. It is a paradise destination. I have always wanted to go there! Mexico and Los Angeles are within driving distance??

San Diego is a vacation hotspot. My wife and I are thinking of having a honeymoon over there. We really couldn't afford one back in 1971. We just have to find someone to watch the dog for a week!! You could use that angle? It's cheaper than a divorce!

https://www.google.com/maps/place/San+D ... fdfd15df79

So there you have it. More than you want, but it is accurate. :dunno:

EDIT. I just found this link. A BIAB guy went to his first NHC. http://www.brewinabag.com/blogs/news/14 ... conference

So that's about £399  totally doable, will just have to talk the wife round to a Holiday in San Diego or a divorce if I get back  . She had her sights set on Mexico for next year

One for the bucket list that's for sure.

Interesting blog link, will have to follow that one.. :interesting:

Yeasty - thats £399 plus flights don't forget!!

I have been thinking about going to one of these too. If you are ever serious, maybe we could look at getting a club/UK discount?

BTW - if you read all of that blog, the impression I got was that he was trying to say BIABers should grind their grains to powder in order to get better efficiency than 3V "dinosaurs". Maybe I just interpreted it wrong?

Why do people keep pinching our tagline? A lot of info on that site needs correcting...

1. BIAB is not a no sparge method.
2. BIAB is actually more kettle efficient than batch sparging.
3. Mentions BIAB kits requiring 10-15% more grain.
etc

You'd think that people making money out of an industry would at least get their information from the people who created the industry in the first place and who have put time and money into it without a return for eight friggin' years now.

Drives me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!

The three vessel guys are fine Joe. The ones driving me nuts are BIAB guys making money from BIAB but not taking the time to educate themselves from those of us who have spent years doing the research and writing about it.

A lot of those things I mentioned above we have written about here ad nauseum and are addressed in posts such as...

"No-Sparge" Definition.
What should my grain crush be like?

Bob and I also dealt with many of these issues in the Basic Brewing "BIAB Legacy" podcast here.Surely if you sold bags you reckon you would take time to listen to a BIAB legacy podcast?

I'd say whatever was being lectured on at the ANHC regarding crush was probably spot on but the BIAB guy is making the wrong conclusions. In other posts on his site he has said that BIAB is less efficient than 3V (which it is not) and in this latest thing he is saying that can be fixed by using a fine crush which is not correct. Go and wet some flour and see how much liquor it retains.

Also be nice if sites like that, instead of pinching our tagline, had a link to the site of the pioneers - as in this site.

Lucky it's morning here and I have had no beer .

  I was taking the piss a bit with that comment. When reading the blog I new exactly where it was going, I couldn't be bothered to have a rant as I ( and PP and Bob ) have read it all before. Like PP it gets under my skin as the guy is obviously posting his own thoughts and ideas with out any research or proof. Guys like him fuel the furnace of bullshit that has held home brewing back for years and kept too many potential AG brewers from taking the plunge.

FFS if the guy just googled his own stolen tag line he find all the info he'd need right here !!
