Would you expect a refund for a bad beer at a bar?

Warning, but the thread did say nonsense and rambles...

I ended up an all style and no substance, self declared "beer boutique" yesterday. I ordered a "lager" to start of with, which cost AU$ 9. Once I took a sip, it was clearly cidery and sour. :drink: :nup:

Now it wasn't meant to be any kind of unusual style but was advertised as bavarian style lager, so I took it back after a few sips.

The bar person, and even the bar manager who had "worked here for 2 years" both said it "came down to personal preference", and "they sell a lot of it".

I was super polite, being from a hospitality background myself... They were totally stand offish and rude about the whole thing. Of course I won't be going back, but do you think I had a case for a replacement beer? I couldn't drink that one, and I certainly wasn't going to part with any of my hard earned in that place.

Thanks for backing me up Lylo, unfortunately they flat out refused to replace it, or give me my money back.

I'll stick to my regular haunts that are free and easy with the samples, smiles, and all round passion for all things beery. :drink:

You were in the right in my opinion.

This bar has just lost money in both direct revenue, and advertising costs. The Manager was very short sighted.

It would have been very easy to keep/gain your business with a simple replacement brew. NOW, they have lost any future business from you, and possibly anyone else you talk to about your experience. The bar will have to work and spend to get your business and the business they could loose as a result of their poor business practice.

It could have been simple.

I've never had problems getting it replaced - even if they've said 'no, it tastes fine' they've usually offered to give me something else free of charge without me even pushing.

If they act like that, their cellar habits are probably similar and I'd stay clear.
