On behalf of the founders, BIABrewer would like to wish all the members here the very best for 2013.

Many thanks to you all for making BIABrewer.info a most helpful and friendly forum with high quality information.

Special thanks to all those who have helped develop or beta test the BIABacus during the year. Your hard work will definitely be of great benefit to many brewers.

Finally, thank you to The Team who contribute here continually with no public recognition.

:salute:

Well I certainly didn't wake up to find that under my Christmas tree this morning. Maybe next year?

Hope everyone is getting a few days off over the next week and getting to brew or drink some quality beer :yum:.

Thanks to all the behind the scenes guys and the excellent members here who've come up with lots of interesting things to explore during the year and lots of laughs as well .

Some good news for you... Next year I am resolving to try and write some really long posts on refractomers and efficiency. How good will that be?

Give it heaps ,

Anyone this Christmas putting their babe (or bloke) in a mesh bag (BIAB), keeping at a constant temperature for an hour, maybe using the paddle a bit, then bringing them to the boil.
Thinking about it. New to BIAB…need advice Tips :)

How'd you go? Did anyone get given a micro-brewery?

Here in Perth it was 40C (104F) and humid. The next 6 days are forecast at 39 or 40 C . Yesterday, I wasn't sure whether to pour beer into me or over me :smoke:. I took the former approach thinking that if I did enough of that, the latter would happen anyway . (Actually couldn't do much of the former as had to drive. Fun day though.)

Hope you all had a good one .

Yes had a fun day too thanks ;)
No snow here which is quite unusual for Nova Scotia, Canada at Christmas, and it was above zero, humid too which makes the cold worse, especially with a nippy breeze. Had to sit by the fire to keep warm.
Only viable option here was to drink the beer. Not very imaginative, I know.

Not a micro brewery, but I got a complete kegging setup from my wife!

Here in Seattle we had a wet Christmas - it rained most of the day. Today it's about 42F (5.5C), and we're getting ready to fire verything up and start on a Porter recipe (Deschutes Black Butte Porter clone).

Happy Holidays, all!

I’d like to make a request if I may for 2013.
Would everyone post something please. There seems to be thousands of members and only a few posters here. Posters keep posting too please…you’re great!
I’m new to this site and I joined because everyone seems to be friendly. I thought it originated in Australia or maybe New Zealand, still haven’t figured that out (where does it originate?), any way that’s where BIAB has really taken off I believe, so I wanted to gain knowledge from a site with authenticity.
People are interesting. I can see there are a lot of people hanging on the sidelines and they all have a story to tell. There’s even someone called "Happy Panties" who I'd love to read a post from
I like the international flavour here also and the broad mindedness that seems to be ever present.
I was also impressed that the moderators and administrators seem to be active and ready to step in to curtail any animosity or personal attacks which I believe can damage a site like this. I have seen that happen on a less well run and more amateur site.
I would like to know who you all are, your stories and experiences.
So that’s my request for this site and the New Year…Please!

Hey Mark, welcome aboard here. Not sure where you're at in Canuckia but I'm in Rochester NY, right across the lake from Toronto. We've got brewers from all over (Isreal, Greece, UK, Croatia, Netherlands, NZ, Australia, US, Canada, etc.) posting here, some more active than others. Hang out, enjoy yourself, and eventually you'll hear from most of the regulars and a few surprise guests. (Watch out for Bob)

Joshua: Australia…Great! Australian, that's why it is so friendly and laid back here. Do you have to be Australian to say G’day? And is that how you write it, Would be a nice way to start posts out of respect for the Land of the BIAB and the people who run the site, but wouldn’t want to be presumptuous (would need permission from an Australian)
Thanks thughes. I’m in Nova Scotia. I’ll relax and enjoy the site…and I’ll watch out for Bob :o
He seems like quite a character though and I’m all for that. (G’day Bob)

The only problem with hanging out here is that we seppos sometimes need an Australian-to-American dictionary to figure out what these skips are talking about.

Since I am a Seppo, I got to talk, and Act like a Seppo, not a Canuck, Limey, or Aussie.

I AM a SEPPO!!!!

At least no one has said "Top o' the Morning, To You".

Or WUS-UP, Hows it hanging, or You in the News?

Good Evening.

GuingesRock,

Thank you for your kind sentiments. You have raised a lot of good points in your posts above. Instead of answering them all in one post, hopefully you won't mind if we knock them off one at a time over the next few days?

There are four brewers we regard as founding the site. All of them play varying roles. Three of the four founders here are either, the or amongst the, original pioneers of BIAB. Some of them post under normal forum names here and some rarely post but all have vital roles behind the scenes.

While it is very nice that you mentioned the country where we did a lot of initial BIAB work, not a single one of the four founders here would like this site to defer to any one nationality. All of us love and appreciate the international flavour of the forum. Having one member celebrate Christmas at 40 C (104 F) while another celebrates at -28 C (-18F) is just one example of how interesting the diversity here is that you mentioned above.

We'll talk more on the culture of this site later and what we suspect creates it. For now GuingesRock, we really appreciate your trying to acknowledge the original founders. All of us prefer though to maintain a low or hidden profile as best as we can. Our view is that the less we have to post, the better the site is doing.

So, that's the founders out of the way. In the next post, we'll look at the Moderators and what they do. They are a lot more interesting than us.

;)
