Hi Thughes,

I have put this on my short list of stouts to try. (I want to brew a couple for the coming winter)

When I put the grain bill into BrewMate, it doesn't have White Wheat Malt. Is there another name for it or a substitute? I'm thinking either torrified wheat malt or just plain wheat malt?

Cheers

I use plain old malted wheat, mash at 154F for 75 minutes and then mashout at 168.

It's my house "dark" beer and I just ran out last night, guess what I'll be brewing today?

Please let us know how you like it.

I can't believe I take a few days off from the forum and hashie starts this thread .

You are in big trouble hashie... what's this publishing a recipe without any volume figures - I thought you knew better :argh:. Go and edit your original post now please .

What I think I am really worried about is that I have no idea what 'Free Friday' means . hashie, can you also edit your first post so that an old timer like me knows what you mean

Good on you!

PP, squared hit the nail on the head, but for your benefit :) it was for an end of boil volume of 27 litres mashed at 64°c (I'll edit the original to reflect such :)

Joshua, let's take it all around the world. BobBrews almost made it here on Friday, but his plane got snowed in! Hopefully my flights wont be delayed for Free Beer Friday at BobBrews place this week :)

This Friday is going to be a dud hashie. Saturday is my Polar brew on a lake so Friday I will be in a sauna for most of the day trying to build up some warmth. I guess I will be mashing myself (sounds dirty?) As I am brewing and doing BIAB demonstrations there I will be thinking of you blokes roasting in the heat. I hope it helps me? I will film some of it. I hope it has a good turnout? Open House next Friday! If I don't fall in?

SATURDAY Forecast Feb. 11th 2012

Seeing as BobBrews has had to postpone, I'll be heading to Tasmania for Free Beer Friday ( I just hope the Father in-law has enough beer to give me some for free :))

Then we'll be enjoying some fine food, beer and wine at Festivale.

Have a great Free Beer Friday all.

joshua ,

I broke the link yesterday. The video was getting popular. I re-watched it and I got a bit worried because I had music in there. So I deleted the music and re-posted. Now I will have to fix all the references to the link!
I put both movies on YouTube!

Good Day Bob, I must of looked for it as you were working it.
Many people in the World don't get the weather you have up there, and find it Interesting/Funny to brew in those conditions.
I think it's great to know BIAB can be done on a frozen lake at 10F.
Can anyone brew 3 vessel on a frozen lake???

Three Vee, is done by most of the brewers in my club. It's such a jumble with all the wind protection that you may not have noticed? The crappy conditions has lead some 3V people to brew a extract or DME beer on bad days. I had all sorts of ideas of going to each group to show their setups and ask questions. The windy conditions spoiled my plans and it just turned into survival. As you can tell when my cube froze and I ran like a wild-man trying to get hot water from an immersion chiller.

You did not see it here but some club members have very fancy (expensive) setups. They will most likely not change their style of brewing. I can't blame them. I will continue to use my method of asking "Why don't you just use BIAB for testing out new recipes? It's quick and easy?" It seems that the idea of using BIAB for that seems to legitimize it? I now have a brewery owner with a million dollars in sales using it!

Really mate? A brewery owner doing BIAB?
That's amazing!!!

If you ever meet him you could ask for his perspectives on the method,
or you know some thoughts on it, I would really love to listen to
a "professional" opinion on a "new" brewing method.
