abita purple haze

we had a world of beers open here in st. pete fl. recently,so the wife another coule and myself went on sat. no pics sorry .I had a roque dead guy and a stone arrogant bastard love them both . My wife who doesnt usually branch out to new beers had a tangerine wheat the last time we where there and loved it. Of course they were out ,so her first was a blueberry beer . she like it at first then the sweet blueberry was to much , so here next beer as an Abita purple haze . It was described to here as a wheat beer with hints of rasberry . She liked the pretty colors on the bottle :D well for the next hour or she nursed her beer. when e went to leave
I noticed she hadn't drank very much .She said she didn't want to complain but she didnt like it.So I tasted it and was proud at how much she had drank :shock: the closest i can describe the taste is a rotten protein shake.Now i know some might like it and i'll admit my palete isn't very experienced but i thought it was very bad and made her really like my first batch :lol:

Doesn't sound enticing at all, I wonder if it was infected or is that how it is meant to taste? *shudders*

I have just brewed Jamil's Black Forest Stout, and added the cherries and chocolate today, so hopefully mine tastes better than the drink your wife had!

Yep that sounds like a very dodgy beer.

Matt, I am impressed at your brewing the Black Forest Stout. Cherries and chocolate in beer, while impresing me, also scares me a lot! I always brew beers at the lager or pale ale end of the range. I also always have a schwartzbier on tap which I really enjoy.

I hate mangos but had a mango beer a while back which was actually quite good. Do you think I could ever enjoy cherries and chocolate in beer? Can you send me a bottle? Don't worry about a 750ml botttle - a 50ml will be fine.

not sure if it was infected or not only one i've every had. My two freinds also tried it and had the same reaction.Guess i should be fare and try another one :cry:now as for the stout that does sound good. Ive never had a stout with chocolate or cherries good luck and let us now hw it turns out

Sure I can Pat, plently of people send beer in plastic bottles around the country, should be about a month in the fermenter still according to Jamil to extract the flavour properly, but there is a good amount of sourness in the cherries which *should* balanace nicely with the malt and bitterness. I have always had quite good success with Jamil's recipes, and thought this would be a good one to try for winter proper.

One thing I have found is that brewing all grain has ruined me forever for just going to a pub and enjoying the standard fare on offer. None of it even comes close to matching what can be done at home or by other brewers.
