454g CaraFoam
227g CaraMunich
227g Acid malt

20min@ 50

10min@ 77

90min boil

Saaz 3.5% 56.7g 70min
28.3g 45min
28.3g 15min
Plate chiller into fermenter.

Tips and suggestions are appreciated!

Lumpy5oh,

Write everything down. Document everything. Take your time. Stay sober! Finally, write everything down and did I mention document everything?

P.S. also I forgot to mention. Take notes on what you do! Never trust your memory!

P.S. P.S. Keep your documentation in a book or folder so that you can refer back to your past triumphs or disasters? :o
tap 1 Raspberry wine
tap 2 Bourbon Barrel Porter
tap 3 Czech Pilsner
tap 4 Triple IPA 11% ABV

Pipeline: Mulled Cider 10% ABV

I can't get this file to open Lumpy. I'll have another go in the next day or two. (Anyone else can't open it?)

Same here? A window popped up and said it might be dangerous? Down to one computer and I am not going to take the chance? besides I am brewing at the moment and I know I will screw up one or both?

I will be using some sheets downloaded from braukaiser to log my brewday. I definitely want to know how my system reacts.
I uploaded the biabacus file from my phone; I will upload again from my desktop shortly.

So... What a gong show!!! Problem after problem.
First my starter foamed over making a huge mess. Ok no problem carry on.
Then gettig ready for brewday I wanted to print off the BIABacus sheets to follow; printer dies. No problem; I'll just transfer the files to my old computer in the garage.
Power surge kills my modem so I can't transfer the files brewday. So I used the files on my smartphone.
Brewday is here and I start to get my water up to temp while crushing my grains.
Brain fart I end up cruching a half pound extra of Carafoam and Acidulated malt. Oh well into the pot!
Mash ph never gets above 5.
End up with 59% efficiency into the fermentor.

Even with all the headaches the actuall brew process went well. I made sure to document as much as I could so I don't mess up so badly the next time.
The wort fermented nicely and is now sitting in a keg lagering. My sample before transfering to the keg tasted alright although it was pretty cloudy.Hopefully it clears nicely over the next 6 weeks.
Thank You for the help Fellas!!

Lumpy5oh,

Your beer will be just fine. Maybe Time cures beer as well as broken hearts? But whether is clears or not? It will taste good because you did it and you know you will be a better brewer for it!

Lumpy, that has cracked me up. Good on ya ;). The above is excellent news because your next brew will be a dream. When I see a post like yours, I always think of this post . So, chin up, you just got all your worries done on the first batch.

As for wasting grain, we had a brew for charity day here once and we had to brew about a billion litres of beer in a day. We had three kettles going and I was weighing and crushing grain like mad. I weighed the grain into grain bags and then put them through the mill, into buckets and then back into grain bags. Only problem was when I picked up the wrong grain bag and poured about 10 kilograms of uncracked[/b] grain (double-batch) into one of the kettles  :).

That's weird with your pH. Would be interesting to see if you can dig up more info in your local water before your next brew. Strips or meter? If strips, what brand? If meter, was it calibrated right before the brew?

I used strips from Precision Labs. 70% of my water was reverse osmosis. I have a water report from my city and used EZ water calculator to estimate the mineral levels and ph of the brew.
My next batch is going to be a stout and according to a couple water calculatore my tap water is perfect for that. I need to better understand what my equipment is doing before I chase the numbers around too much. I am sure the pilsner will turn out drinkable :drink:
