If they are mashing with 10 and sparging with 10. That makes twenty, less the liquor retained by the grain. They'll have to top up with a lot into the fermentor (which you don't want to do) and this makes it even less likely that the 4.4 kg of grain will give them 23 litres at 1.048.

[NOTE: They won't be more efficient with a sparge. Putting sparge water in at the start as we do in "pure BIAB" or "SMS (simultaneous mash and sparge brewing)" is just as efficient as adding it later. Search my posts for the word 'jeans' for full info
