This recipe comes courtesy of Kal Warner, a well respected Canadian Brewer. A friend and I have both brewed it and it's fantastic. Highly recommended if you like a citrusy but well balanced pale ale.
Original recipe: http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/forum ... hp?t=24682
I used The Calculator to scale it to suit my equipment and it worked flawlessly. I should add that I substituted Pilsner malt for 2-row pale without any issues.

That looks like a great recipe Ralphus. Any chance of putting your Calculator version up here as it would save me having to convert to metric

Thank you Ralphus!
I see you have used one of the hybrid calculator versions - it's really interesting seeing the changes. (The latest draft is totally different and looks more like a real program. All the formulas are perfect
. Trying to retain the simplicity is really difficult but I think the guys are getting there
)
I'm surprised you haven't stolen BobBrew's name for his Citra Pale Ale. He PM'ed me with it. If my memory serves me correctly, he calls it, "Citra Ass Down."

LOL! That's a great name
I didn't realize there was a new version of the calculator out - it sounds fantastic
I'll check it out tonight.

It is a great name
Sorry Ralphus, the new version of the calculator is still being worked on offline so you won't be able to find it yet. I'm one of the guys that has been roped into the project
and it is taking a lot longer than we thought - hours and hours of Skypes and literally a few hundred hours of work, a lot of which has been tied up in solving sometimes small but totally fundamental issues. The fine tuning is incredibly difficult especially given that we have been confined to a spreadsheet.
We've decided that the next project will require a fully-written program which will take a year or more to develop but it will have a heap of features currently missing from existing programs. Because of this time delay, we want to make sure that the sheet we put out satisfies both beginners and advanced users.
One thing we are still struggling with is a new name for the upcoming calculator. It has to be something catchy but that also reflects BIAB. (Mind you, it would only take a click of a few buttons to make it a brilliant tool for traditional brewers
)

I have looked at some of the formulas in the current calculator and they are scary. Kudos to you guys for putting them together and working on a new version.
Yea.. a name would be great. "The Calculator" is a bit boring. I'm not sure I'm the right person but I'll throw some lame ideas out there. Maybe they'll kick start someone with more imagination than I have!
1) Bagbot
2) Bagbrain or Brainbag
3) Bagdroid
4) Bagtopia
5) Bagometer
6) Bagzilla
7) iBag
8) Superbag
9) BagOS
10) Magic Bag
I think Magic Bag could be a contender. It sort of sums of BIAB for me.

Hey there Ralphus - thanks a heap for putting up the above names
. A lot of your appendages (the bits on the end) are totally new suggestions and already my brain is thinking how we could match them up with other ideas
.
I suspect that to make it easy to find on google etc, it might have to contain the acronym, "BIAB," instead of 'bag'... In fact, it has just struck me that having to use, "BIAB," in the name is what is probably causing all the difficulties...
Using, "BIAB," uses up two syllables straight away whereas all the existing software (and your great suggestions above) generally have only two syllables so the names are, 'punchy'. Anything over three syllables is hard to make 'catchy'
.
BIABOS - BIAB Operating System (from your BagOS above). Makes me think of BIABoss but that doesn't stand for anything
BIABzilla - Get's there in sound but I'm not sure it gets there in logic enough?
BIABit / BIABiT / BIABIT - BIAB and Information Technology?
Think I'll leave it there. I think those hop formulas you saw are easier than the name
Once again Ralphus, thanks a heap. I think you certainly have brought us several steps closer.

Agree - fitting BIAB into the name is going to be a challenge. Particularly because the majority of new brewers (myself included) - have not made the transition to 'saying' BIAB as 'bye-ab' or anything else - instead it is spelled out as B-I-A-B. That makes it four distinct syllables - plus whatever is appended to it. That makes it very hard to be catchy.
Post #11 made 14 years ago
Oh no! I was assuming everyone said bye-ab, not bee-ab, let alone bee-ay-eye-bee, when I should actually know better
.
I am really depressed now Ralphus
