Old Geezer's - Grand Duchess - RIS - BJCP Style 13 F - help

Grand Duchess - RIS - BJCP Style 13 F

This recipe originated from BCS by Jamil, Page 176-178 Tricentennial Stout. The original recipe has been changed by yours truly over the past 5 years. With the original recipe, BCJP Judges comments were not good. (My equipment was part of the problem and the fact I was a newby back then) After tr eking the recipe to match my brewing skills and equipment I started to get a few Medals/ribbons from various competitions.

The recipe posted with this is also tr-eked a little from the last recipe from which I have entered in 3 competitions during the month of March. The changes I have now made concern OG 1.106 to 1.095 and IBU's 100.0 to 90.0 (Jamils' recipes are based on Rager calculations for IBU's. Do I need to do anything other than give the Tinseth calculated IBU's desired other than input the desired IBU's?

Don't laugh to hard at this Old Geezer's 1st :idiot: attempt at working with TheBiaBacus spreadsheet.

Appreciate any input from the experts. Hope to be brewing on the new system in 2-3 weeks.

Joe

Hi Joe

Short of time but I've attached a copy of your file. I've changed the amounts in section C to reflect the amounts in the book, plus I've changed the default efficiency to 70% as per the recipe. The Biabacus auto efficiency calculations are less accurate at higher gravities so 70 as per the recipe is a good starting point.

You also need to add you hop AA% when you get them in section D under substitutions. I can't answer the IBU question as it confuses me but I'd be happy with the 90 IBU setting.

Have a look and see what you think. As this brew is a couple of weeks away there is time for further tweaks.

:luck:

Yeasty,

Thank you for reviewing the Grand Duchess RIS - TheBiabacus - recipe.

I was using the grain bill from my last batch of 5 for this Grand Duchess Stout, however after your corrections to get it to follow the Tricentennial Stout recipe in BCS, I realized that it would be a good idea to start out with the original recipe with new equipment. By doing so I can keep notes and make tweaks based on those notes.

In the process of getting my equipment calibrated, ie; volume control sensor, pump and valves profiles, etc., a little different than just getting the grain in a bag, water in kettle, turn on heat, drop bag, etc.

Many times during the last year I wish I had gone with the true BIAB method. But being a retired engineer I could not resist going all out with a fully automatic system. Decision was made before I found this Forum.
