Paul's Hop Burst Ale

Post #1 made 13 years ago
Brewed this last week and it's tasting awesome. I just dry hopped it too
Only change would be to use a more malt forward yeast but it's fine how it is.

Fermented at 18°C with Safale US-05

Recipe Generated with BrewMate

HC

Edit:

Dry hopping was
0.1g/L of Galaxy
0.3 g/L of Topaz and Chinook
0.4g/L of Amarillo and Cascade.

I reduced the Galaxy addition as I find it to be a very strong hop that dominates with it's flavour.

Thats quite a recipe housecat!
You gave your scales quite a workout there.
I think you may be a little light on your estimated IBU's though.I work them out to around 54.7 :o ,but should taste great!
Based on a 19l brew length and assuming you meant 2grams/liter and 1 gram/liter
not .2 and .1 grams each

I did this one as a double and ended up with 54L (I wanted 52L) at the end of the day with an OG of 1.050 only cos I cut the boil a bit shorter than I wanted to.

The hops are meant to be as they are, in my batch I had a total of 230g of hops so while it's not a hop monster, they do add up.

What did you use to calculate the IBU's? I just used Brewmate and the average setting. With the Tisenth setting, I get 33.5

I said nothing Lylo! (Housecat, make Lylo prove his calcs :P).

I did see your recipe though HC. Saw it yesterday in fact and thought, "Wow!"

Never looked at the numbers of the hop additions, only the number of them  That's a wild brew.

Grams/Litre is not a bad way of conveying hop measurements and is often used for commercial breweries. It's not a great way for home brewers at the moment though because we wouldn't know if the litre meant pre-boil volume, post-boil volume, volume into fermentor or volume into packaging . (If it meant post-boil volume then all would be good for all of us ;)).

Looks like an excellent recipe though

Housecat: Are you coming back over to Perth soon? I'd love to taste this one :yum:.

Lylo: I know I am letting the BIABacus team down - am just trying to find a four day window of free time which seems to be escaping me. What I am wondering is how you got housecat's 18 hop additions into the BIABacus when we only allowed for 8 hop additions. (It can be done but I am really impressed you worked out how. Let me know or post a screenshot here of how you did it

Good on you :salute:.

I'm not too sure when I'll be back over. I'll put one aside for if I come over short notice.

All tastings so far point towards it being a tasty brew. yum!
I'm glad I reduced the dry Galaxy addition as it seems more balanced against the other hop flavours now.

Lylo: 100 characters or less... Perfect! :P

Housecat: Good on you. Hopefully on your next visit you wont get stuck so far up north. Looking forward to hearing your future taste tests ;).
