Hi Bob,
I am thinking about doing a LCPA soon, and was wondering about how this turned out for you ?
Seems very close to a recipe on Aussiehomebrew forum, but simpler ( which is good for me - a 5 BIAB newb)

Sorry, missed your post until now. I'm not sure where I got the recipe, probably from Aussiehomebrew. It turned out very nicely, have made numerous since,

Bob

Hi Bob
I am going to be brewing this recipe over Christmas and it looks like I have the same size urn you used for doing yours and I will be no chilling as well so it should be easy enough for me to try without having to convert.

The only questions I have are about the hopping, I'm guessing your hop schedule is adjusted for no chill but as a new BIAB brewer (2 brews to date) I would like to ask if the 0 min additions are just put in to the cube or dry hopped? Also can any of the late additions be added as FWH's as I quite like the idea of FWH? I did just bulk buy enough grain and hops to do this a few times so I may try it with and without FWH.

Thanks for any help/advise.

Hi Chris,
I have just finished drinking one of these brews and brewed another yesterday. I have been adjusting the recipe. I still use the same amount of grain although I have used Maris Otter in the last few. Yes, the 0 min hops go into the cube, and yes, I now FWHop.
I now use
6.5g Cascade (5.4AA) FWH
2.6g Galaxy (14.5AA) FWH
18.4g EKG (6.1AA) @ 60 mins
13.3g Cascade @ 0 min
5.1g Galaxy @ 0 Min
This has lowered the IBU to 29.3. I have also reduced the water required to 34.54 L (392mm using a steel rule). I allow for an absorption rate of 0.35(L/Kg), an evaporation rate of 11.5% per hour, 27.5 L wort after boil and 23 L into the cube (allowing for cooling loss).
I have also tried step mashing, 62 C for 10 mins, 68 C for 40 mins, 72 C for 10 mins and a mashout at 78 C.
I hope this helps, don't hesitate to ask any other questions you might have. By the way, I assume from your time of posting that you are either a night owl or don't live in Australia! Good luck with you Christmas brewing,

Bob

Thanks for the detailed and prompt reply Bob, it will be very helpful. You are spot on, I am from England and posting this from my desk at work. I think I will give this a go tonight as the wife is out for the night which will make things easier in the kitchen.

The master brewer at Little Creatures provides a rough all grain version in this interview http://www.beerandbrewerawards.com.au/_ ... Creatures/

He's kept a few of the cards up his sleeve eg a specific yeast, though he gives a few options to try. Brewers choice have added a kit and an extract version at the bottom.

My attempt at chucking his recipe into biabacus has scaled the hops dramatically, not sure what's going on :headhit:

Hey Fongasbrew

The cube is used for cooling (or no cooling as its called). Basicly at the end of the brew day we pour near to boiling wort in to a food grade 25L plastic jerry can, squeeze out as much air as you can and put the lid on it. I usually turn it upside down for a bit to let the heat sanitize the top and then back up the right way. You then leave it to cool by its self for a day or more and then transfer it to your fermenter with the yeast when you have time.

There are many better explanations on this site than mine but this should give you the idea.
