I give mine a soak in nappysan after brewing, for about a day and then give it a good rinse.
Cheers Brad

+1 Brad, a soak in nappisan/ perc, but only if I'm enthusiastic (not very often!). Empty it out (promptly) then a rinse in cold tap water and hanging it up to dry is all I do except for about every 20th brew when I'll soak it!

Pic (and a shameless plug!).

Edit: Yeah, it gets a bit manky- looking but nothing to worry about!

iijakii,

The great thing about a BIAB bag is that you can just throw it in your washing machine. The bag I originally started BIABing with is still in faultless condition*.

I find that after I have emptied the bag, running it under a tap to get rid of the grain works well. (If you have a crappy bag design/stitching, this will take too long.) A bag should not take less than a minute to rinse of grain.

After this, it goes into my washing machine and will usually be washed within 48 hours. A BIAB bag does not need to be sanitised or sterilised but it also should not be allowed to grow mould!

You should be able to put it through any wash as well. My machine can do washes up to 90 C which is pretty rare in a washing machine. If my BIAB bag coincides with the occasional 90 C cycle, then in it goes!

You also need to sew up your bag well. *My original one, sewn by a neighbour, is the best stitching I have seen and that bag is still being used by a fellow brewer and has seen many a double-batch. I gave it to him after I had done about 50 brews in it.

Cheers,
PP

P.S. Your bag should stain quite quickly. It won't remain white.

I do the same as pistolpatch, empty the spent grain, rinse with the hose and wash in any washing cycle.

80 odd brews, same bag, no problems.

I've decided to ditch the washing machine, after the first time in there I realized that swmbo also washes the dog bed in there. So I spent a fair whack of time picking dog hair out of my bag.

I just turn the bag inside out and hand rinse in a bucket of water. If she comes out clean I hang it in the open air to dry. I haven't put it through the wash (yet)! As long as there are no balls of mash or sugar to attract ants I am good to go. A minimal amount of work for maximum results. I love BIAB!

Right after I dump the grains I wash mine inside out in soapy water and then rinse in clean water. Then the night before my next batch, I throw it in the washer.

I give it a good spray with the garden hose while it's still hot and wet from the brew. The grain comes off easiest this way. I hang it up to dry, and usually by the end of the brew its dry enough to put away. I don't have a proper bag but rather 2 meters of voille. I just drop it in the kettle.
