I have the opportunity to pick up a new Bayou Classic 82 qt ss kettle and ss basket for less than a 62 qt one.
I do mostly 5 gallon batches and the thing just looks huge...will ther be any downside to getting the larger kettle?
Still able to do 5 gallon batches?

I have the ability to do 10 gallon batches. I rarely do that. I would say 95% is 5 gallons. It takes me 10 seconds more to clean out the keggel than my smaller pot. Who cares? I like the ability to brew bigger if I need more than the extra weight, size or cleaning time that my keggel demands. A SS basket may be used in conjunction with your brew bag on big beers?

They do look huge!
I have a 70 litre (82 quarts = 80 litres) and often do double batches often with other brewers. The only downside is high evaporation rates on single batches but this doesn't worry me and if I wanted to fix it I'd use Thirsty Boy's idea of floating a stainless steel bowl on the wort surface.
I reckon go for it!

One of the differences I saw between the 2 is that the 62qt has a lip which supports the basket ~2" above the bottom while the larger will go all the way down, but has 3 indented holes to add ss bolts as feet.
so there is a bit more flexibility with the larger as well, in that regard.

One of the nice things with being able to do doubles and triples is to share a brew day (and the wort) with buddies

While I don't yet brew with anyone else, but I am becoming curious about doing 10 gallon batches and splitting them up and fermenting differently, so I'm leaning more and more towards the monster.
