So my cheap nylon bag started ripping last brew, I'm ready for a quality voile bag. Does anyone here know their way around a sewing machine? I've exhausted all of my resources -- no one knows how to sew! If so, let me know how much it'd run me.
/desperation.

No tailor/seamstresses in your area? Dry cleaning places usually have one. I doubt it would cost much for them to do it. Maybe a biaber or spouse could start up a small side business.....

Where are you located iijakii?
Gryphon Brewing do a good bag over here in Perth for $45 AUD. If you are in the US he should be able to post one to you fairly cheaply.

Funny you ask...I was just thinking last night (in the shower) that BIAB is going to take off and if my wife would agree to sew, we would be able start a small business making bags. Unfortunately she looked at me like I was an idiot when I told her about my idea
So sorry, I can't help

I always meant to get a bag.
I rough it and use it flat and un-hemmed. It gradually gets a bit smaller each time you wash it but is easy to clean, and seems to work the same.
I would expect the more dedicated technical guys wouldn't like the thought of all the folds when you push it down into the pot but you could use this method while you source a seamstress or pre fabbed bag.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to check if Eoin could make up a mean bag for me, otherwise I'll check out those links.

We can do it for you, the ones we've done so far have gone down very well with people. They are made to order size wise and if you have any ideas you'd like us to implement then we can do that too. I plan on offering a baked bean tin styled design at some point too which only has voile in the base and a relatively impermeable sidewall to emulate something akin to an MT with false bottom and force all runnings out the bottom of the bag.
This is all dependent on the bloody overlocker working correctly, thusfar it's already been in the shop once and came back not working despite paying 100 euros for the repair.

That looks quality.
I do not have an electric setup (unfortunately) so it won't have any special stuff like that. I just need a big bag that can take the weight required for an 8 gallon batch! I'll try to get the pot dimensions to you later tonight -- it's a fairly large 62 quart kettle.

My own kettle is 75l and I've done numerous batches with 11-12kg dry grain bills, about US 15 gallon batches, so no issue on the strength at all.
