BIAB Bag...

Post #1 made 12 years ago
So I decided to use the bag formula and make a couple of custom bags for my kettle and one for a friend. Let's just say the sewing part I can handle, the measuring and cutting the material...uuhhhh, I wasn't so cheerful!! Here's a pic my wife took as I was finishing my last bag. I made four bags for a total of $25. Not bad!!

Wow they look ace..much better than my efforts with a sewing machine. Nice touch with the doubled over rim and handles.

BIAB Bag...

Yes, that is the spreadsheet I used and it was a huge help!! Measuring, marking and cutting was the hardest part if the entire project. Now I can't wait to clear my fermenter of my IPA and try my new bag. Any thoughts and/or recipe ideas for me? I have a 10 gallon kettle and would love to do some sort of a Zombie Dust clone.

BIAB Bag...

I am one proud papa brewing with my own hand sewn BIAB bag last night. It worked like a charm and I can't wait to use it again on my next batch.

I got it at Gander Mountain for something like $20. I am a deer hunter and that is what I use for my hunting season. It worked perfectly. Now, I need to get that picture as a bottle label...

It looks very good, i wish i could sew like you, mine is hand stitched (sewed?), is not pretty, but it does the job. I have done 4 brews with it and is stil one piece. I plan to transform it into a hop spider, when i would do another bag. I found a place where i buy voile very cheap, 3 square meters for the equivalent of 3 dollars.

I am glad that my spreadsheet is usefull :D

I plan on getting one of these bags ( http://www.biab-brewing.com/?page_id=11 ) but I am making a hop sock and a steeping bag out of some voile I bought from Fabricland yesterday.

Has anyone bought this style of bag? I think it is very nice for the price.
Cheers!!

I buy voile 1 meter of 3 meters wide with about 2 euros. Even with the sowing cost i don't think that i get to 30 USD. But if you want to buy it and get around the hassle of measuring and sewing, the bags look really nice. GO for it :)
