BeerSmtih 2.0 profile for 72L (19 gallon) pot - correct?

Post #1 made 15 years ago
Hello.

I have a 72L (19 gallon) stainless steel pot which is 45CM in diameter and 45CM in height. I have 4200w element in the bottom (will soon upgrade to 5500W), and I'm using BIAB. Is there something obviously wrong on my BeerSmith 2.0 profile?

I set my mash tun specific heat to 0, (because once you heat your strike your pot is hot) this way bs2 will correctly calcare your strike temp
Fermenting: -
Cubed: -
Stirplate: -
On Tap: NS Summer Ale III (WY1272), Landlord III (WY1469), Fighter's 70/- II (WY1272), Roast Porter (WY1028), Cider, Soda
Next: Munich Helles III

Great, I have made the change to zero for Mash tun specific heat.

Two questions:
1. If I want to brew larger capacities, ie. 40 liters instead of 20 liters, do I have to make a new profile and is it much work changing the profile to use larger capacities.

2. When I see a recipe in a book or in forums and I want to apply it to my profile in BeerSmith should I create the recipe with some other "generic" profile and then apply my profile to it to get accurate results?

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.

Yep, this is where we start running into problems unfortunately.

In the BIABacus that is being worked on here, you don't need to set up a different profile for different size brews or brews of different gravities. In all other software, including BeerSnmith2, you need to.

As for your second question, the problems become even more complex. Most programs, if they do scale, do so inaccurately, or even worse, if you don't know the prgram's 'personality' can actually give you totally wrong answers. The BIABacus will fix this as well but, of course, it's not out yet so...

Your best bet for now is to use the "Use this thread to convert recipes to suit your equipment" thread. You'll get a good answer there.

I'm on a lousy internet connection atm so excuse the lack of links etc.

Cheers,
PP

You do really need to set up a different profile for every batch size.
If you have found the above or anything else of value on BIABrewer.info, consider supporting us by getting some BIPs!
