Now that I BIAB, how do I sanitize CFC?

Before I was doing all grain brewing with a 3V system, and while the wort was boiling in the lowest kettle, I could get some boiling water out of the topmost kettle to sanitize my counter-flow chiller (25' of 3/8" copper tubing inside a garden hose).

Now that I am going to BIAB, I won't have that top kettle anymore - so what is the best way to sanitize the chiller prior to using it? I don't have a food grade pump (though I might be able to get my hands on a garden fountain pump).

Any ideas?

You would have to start with it sanitized at the beginning of your brew day with your 1 vessel or multitask, cleaning it during your boil period with another vessel and burner. I don't see any other way. Just look at my photos, I should know. It takes a big effort to clean my plumbing "system" after a brew day, and then re-sanitize it at the beginning of the next brew day.

I'm trying NO CHILL on my next batch, my chilling system, pump, hoses, etc. may be dry docked indifferently.

No chill would be your best bet, although (I've never used a chiller) I thought the hot wort would kill any nasties on your chiller?

An auto siphon will work, just not for long. They are designed for ambient temperatures, not near boiling liquids.

I use a stainless racking cane with a length of silicone hose to transfer hot wort to my no-chill cube.

I'm guessing since the OP doesn't have a pump that the CFC is gravity fed. Your star san, CFC and auto-siphon is a room temp. Do the manual pump-action as show in the youtube vid.

Actually what I use is a device called a WortWizard, which uses the Venturi principle to "pump" the wort from the kettle. It works well enough that I have 2 of them in case the first one breaks, but so far, so good. I think No-Chill is the way to go, I just hate the idea of having to buy something else in order to make this simpler..

The wort would be chilled half way through the chiller...

If it were me, I'd probably run starsan through the chiller... the starsan people, say to do it in both directions...

in fact... can you not soak the chiller in starsan... i imagine if its held at the right angle the bubbles should come out.

Meanwhile, if you decide to no-chill, you can't use an auto-siphon as it would melt.

I use a stainless steel jiggle siphon head, and I've just ordered a stainless racking cane that I plan to join to the jiggle siphon with an inch or two of my heavy duty 1/2" silicon hose

I watched the video...I think that will work great, recirculating the iodophor through the copper...excellent, thanks!
