I have an 8 gallon kettle at the moment. I found mesh bags that should fit inside the pot and over the sides.
My question is: Can I brew a 5 gallon batch in this pot comfortably?
I was just going to try it and hope for the best, but I thought I'd ask here beforehand since I have time to wait.
Suggestions and concerns appreciated.

Comfortably? Yes but it requires a bit of trickery such as holding some water back during your mash and adding it back in when you begin your boil. For example, I brewed a 4.2% ABV Bitter on Saturday. The recipe calls for 9.25 pounds of grain and a bit over 8 gallons of water to start with (acounting for all losses in my system this gets me 5.25 gallons into the fermenter).
Obviously that mash wont fit in your 8 gallon pot but if you hold back 2 gallons of water it will fit. After you pull the bag and drain it you can add that 2 galloons you held back to the kettle and start your boil. Do a search for "maxi BIAB".

Thanks thughes, I found a thread on MaxiBIAB. Interesting concept. I may try it out, but a friend just offered me a keggle for a few dollars so I may have a new pot soon. The recipe I have calls for 12.2 lbs of grain. Looks like I will have to go and get myself a voile bag made at the sewing shop. I also found the calculator, that will be very helpful for me just starting.
