Hello! I'm Erik from Sweden and I'm a 5L biab brewer. Just finished my fifth batch of beer with terrible efficiency, again :-) But I'm getting better. I have only brewed non-Biab once and that beer war awful, since then they've been drinkable but not awesome. Trying not to look at efficiency that much, but it's annoying when you get 70% one brew and bump down to 55 the next. Anyway, I really enjoy brewing and biab is the method for me, hopefully soon I'll have som really tasty brew to brag about.
Bottle fermenting right now: IPA and a Maris Otter / Cascade SMASH
In the fermenter: Hoppy Blonde Ale

Hello Erik, and welcom to the site!
Can't say much about your efficiency, as I've never experienced anything that low and I do not brew mini BIAB.
I would recommend to go onto the mini BIAB page and post your question (along with proper title), and someone will be along to help you... There are some of the guys that post here that brew mini BIAB a lot. Likely there are some things missed, incorrect process, etc.
Would recommend to use the BIABacus file (free on this website) for the next brew. And be sure to do a 90 minute mash plus 90 minute boil... After complete your next one and you post with how it went, please also attach your BIABacus file of the brew session so it can be reviewed (with #svfilled in, etc.).
Best of luck and let us know if you need assistance getting it to that point.

Thank you Scott, feels good to be here! I'm not actually super concerned with efficiency right now as I'm still trying to find my way through my brewery. There's so many processes that need's tweaking before I should start looking at the numbers. Hitting OG is good enough for me.
I'm using beer smith and I compared some numbers with BIABactus and The BIABcalculator and there where some difference in water volumes. Also I think my fermenter is giving me wrong volumes as well. So, lot's to think about :-) But, that's part of what fun!
Also, being new to this forum, I can't fint the mini BIAB page you're mentioning, mind pointing it out to me? Thanks!

Here you go... http://www.biabrewer.info/viewforum.php?f=23 Stove Top BOAB ;also known as Mini BIAB). About 3/4 the way down the list.
And I would recommend the BIABacus.,, Definitely need to dial in your volumes, especially in the brew pot. BIABacus gives you headspace estimate that can be measured...if you don't have accurate knowledge elseways...

Also see http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php ... =maxi+biab
and http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php ... iab#p46349
I was confused about Maxi-BIAB being for smaller (mini) batches.

"An accurate measuring jug is essential to get our volumes correct"
Well, I noticed yesterday that my fermenter (which I use to measure my volumes) is 0.6 dl of / L graded on the bucket. Filling it up to 10 gives me 6 dl less then expected. Also, as I mentioned, the water volumes stated in the BIABcalculator vs BeerSmith also differ, leaving me with 1-1.3L less water than needed in the kettle. This would explain my lack in efficiency, no?
Anyway, I'll stop spamming this thread and continue in a proper maner. It's just nice to get replies within the hour, most Swedish forums have super slow activity, yay BIABrewer!

Hi!
I have been brewing for 10 years and now I want to make my process more easy with BIAB.
I am from Spain and English is not my mother language so you may find any wrong words, spelling, etc.
Best regards

Cheers, all!
My name is Matt and I'm from Ohio, in the U.S. and I'm a dad, farmer, and a brewer. I've been brewing for 20 years now and brew beer, cider, mead and a little wine. I've tried BIAB before (about 5 times) and have had some good beers. I really like the process and want to build on my experience and make some great beers with BIAB and this is most definitely the place to be. I'm looking forward to making some friends here and learning some new tricks.

HI, I am from Brazil and found the forum when looking to solve my BIAB efficiency problem. I found the answer already and I am very pleased with all the info that I could find.
I did my first batch in BIAB (1st all grain also, 2nd batch overall) and there are still things to figure out, but I am loving it. As a Physics professor I am all into science and playing around with recipes and the planning of my brew day has become my passion instantly.
Hope to find so much more help in here and thanks for the help already given to me.

Hi,
Just started in Northern Ireland. All the stuff has arrived for a big stove top session. Pot will hold 15l, looking forward to a lot of small batches with variety (though nearly pulled the trigger on a Grainfather).
Saturday is brew day, just need to downsize a recipe!

Welcome aboard Greengrass and dwalke15 - you have found a great site for learning BIAB.
Download BIABacus if you haven't already. Search the sight on answers to your questions and don't hesitate to ask questions. There are plenty of experienced BIABers here to help out.
I myself typically brew 15L on stove top - enjoying variety etc... One of the really cool things about BIAB brewing is how good a brew you can create without expensive equipment.
Happy brewing! Look forward to hearing about your brew days.
Pete
