Hello there,
I'm Patrick From CA. I am just getting started in the Homebrew experience. My wife got me a MrBeer for X-mas and I am just getting around to starting. It's been fermenting for a week now.
I have a starter kit coming from NB, should be here in about a week. I plan to do 2.5 gallon runs and I am working with the BIABacus to get my first recipe figured out!
The site is Awesome!

Good stuff Evan and welcome to the show :salute:,

You'll probably need some help matching the NB kit and the BIABacus so just ask on the board.

The BIABacus asks you what equipment you have and what you want to brew and then works out what you need. In your case, you'll have, sort of the reverse. It's no big issue but might make things confusing for you!

In other words, don't be worried about asking questions, we will know where you are coming from :peace:,

If you have found the above or anything else of value on BIABrewer.info, consider supporting us by getting some BIPs!

Hi everybody!

I am a homebrewer from Germany. I started brewing in 2009. My normal batch size is around 5 galons, all grain set up.
I have recently discovered brew in a bag.I have two kids and brew time is rare at the mo, so I am planning to do smaller batches on my kitchen stove.
Hoefully some of my questions will get answered with the help of this cool comunity!!

Happy brewing..!! Cheers...!!

Hello all,

I've brewed a few extract beers here in Kansas, and now I'd like to take the next step to all grain. I have been told (I won't name names) that I can't buy any more equipment that takes up space, so BIAB looks like my best option. I'm looking forward to learning something new and hopefully drinking some great beers.

Thanks for all the time and contributions everyone has put into this site!

Great forum! So pleased to have discovered it.

I'm from South Gippsland in Australia (about as far south as you can go in the mainland before swimming).

I've been away from brewing for many years but now have a little more time and the urge to get back into it. I was going to set up my old mashing/lauter tun in a hot water jacket system when my son (who makes a pretty good all mash brew) said "Why don't you do a BIAB" A few hours research and I'm convinced! Also I'm lucky in that I have all the equipment to hand except the bag itself. (It does help that I was a commercial winemaker for 20 years and conveniently still have gas, refrigeration, quite a lot of stainless steel kegs and most importantly a one ton block and tackle already in the middle of my shed. So all set to go. My first try will be an English ale, trying to emulate Otter Ale from Devonshire, UK where my wife comes from. I like it too, and I think it's a wise move

Welcome aboard Jimtherabbit. Very wise move to start with something your wife will enjoy :)
Sounds like you are well on your way there, lots of good info here and many brewers to answer any questions if you have them. Grab yourself a copy of the Biabacus and have a play around with it. It is an extremely useful tool, especially for replicating recipes from others on your own equipment.

Happy Brewing!

Hello all,

I am based in Edinburgh, Scotland and have been brewing from extract kits for a few years now and playing about with different yeasts and extracts. Equipment costs have stopped me stepping up to all grain brewing but a friend has recently introduced me to BIAB.

I have just purchased a 40l electric boiler and cant wait to get my first "real" home brew going. I have a lot to learn, but having searched through the wealth of advice and knowledge on this forum, hopefully will be enjoying some cracking brews in the near future.

Looking forward to sharing my triumphs and tragedies with you all!

Welcome, Duffer. You are well on your way with current experience. Use the "BIABACUS" at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1869 The Spreadsheet.

and get "The BIABacus - Help" at http://biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=1863 You may find it useful.

and read the "Clear Brewing Terminology (CBT)" viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2685 To learn the language of BIABACUS.

Fill out the BIABacus first, post it on the forum if you have questions before purchasing the ingredients and you can hardly go wrong. Brew on.

Welcome jmantastic and MarGar34! You've come to the right place for quality information on BIAB and brewing in general.

Jman - read up, grab Biabacus and ask questions, I bet you pass your course with flying colours!

MarGar - once you get that first BIAB batch down you will never go back to extract, as above, read up and grab the BIABacus, ask questions and get brewing :)

Happy brewing to you both!

Hey all,

I'm from the southern coast of Victoria, Australia...right next to Bells Beach.

I've been extract brewing since 2011 and have gradually built up to throwing in hops, grains, etc. Gradually worked out that BIAB would probably be easier than what I'm doing now with an 8l boil.

Anyway, planning my first BIAB for Saturday in the new 40l urn.

Chad Here...
Hello everyone. from small town in Ohio. I haven't brewed in a couple years and I did all extract brewing before. probably 10 batches. I will be brewing my first BIAB this sunday. It will be a stout. Since I don't have a lot of money to spend right now I thought I would start out with BIAB. And will be on stove top. Looking forward to start brewing again and learning from this forum. Thanks

Hello Friends,

I'd like to make my presence here official, so here goes my introductory post. I'm looking forward to learning from all the experienced BIABers here as I try to perfect my process.

1. Where are you from? I live in Northern Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC
2. How did you stumble across the site? Homebrewtalk.com had a link to this site.
3. What you think of it so far? I know this place will be great for me to improve upon how I currently brew.
4. Have you brewed at all before. If so, for how long and what method are you currently using? I've been brewing for about 5 years, the first 4 of those were strictly extract. I dove into BIAB within the past 12 months and have 3 BIAB brews under my belt.
5. Do you work? Are you retired or maybe you run a household? I work full-time and try to squeeze in as many brew days as I can on the weekends, weather permitting (my wife is not a fan of the wondrous smell of an indoor brew day).

Cheers,
BigBeck81

A big welcome to you, BigBeck81. It sounds like you have things under control already. If you do come up with questions, look around the forum to see what you can find and if it doesn't answer yours, then feel free to ask anew. There are recipes here and if you strike gold, you can post your own. Lucky you, brewing indoors - MSO kicked me outdoors after first brew.
