Hello All.

Glad I found your site.

My name is Dave and I live in St. Louis, Missouri USA and have been brewing for several years with a friend.

We welded together our current single tier three burner propane system and brew 10-gallon batches (often doing double batches in a day.)

I am very happy with the setup but it lives at my friends place and is not at all portable so I wanted to try to build a biab setup for my house.

Currently 90% finished with my electric biab setup using an 11gallon kettle and hoping to get a yield of about 6 gallons.

Based I my introductory searching and reading of this site it will become my go to reference for this new adventure.

Thanks for all the info and in advance for the help to come.

Dave

Hi. I am richard. I am new to brewing (have done five extract beers including a lager). Now I plan to start doing BIAB using my 8 Gal kettle. I am trying to see if I should do a 5 Gallon final volume or scale down. I live in California and also do wines from frozen must and kits.

Looking forward to interact with this Forum. :champ: :champ: :champ:

Hi folks!
I'm in Lethbridge, Alberta, and I've been brewing for only a year or so. I've made a few DME kits and 5 or 6 BIAB batches. I keg it all. I've used BeerSmith 2 for a bit but I'm going to give BIABacus a go on the advice of the good folks one the Canadian Home Brewers forum. I've never been good at numbers, calculations, computers, spreadsheets, instructions or paying attention, and I've muddled through alright, but I'm starting to think I might be running out of beginner's luck so I'm trying out a few different tools before I settle on one that I can really learn to use properly. I promise not to be a total pain in the butt asking silly questions.

I crushed the grains for a stout last night, and as soon as I get enough coffee into me, I'm going to try to turn it into beer.

Cheers!

Wow, lots of new members! djkohm, rmklaw, martindisorder and Splort, welcome to the home of BIAB!! Lots of quality info here and many helpful and experienced brewers to answer any questions.

Splort, I'm a CHB guy too, and as far as the math and calculations and all that, the BIABacus does most of it for you, just make sure you get your kettle dimensions in there correct, and ask questions if you have any troubles.

Happy Brewing all!

Hey there,

I am 35 years old and come from Berlin, Germany. I came accross this board while reseachring the BIAB method. I came to brewing after being impressed with all the craft beers in the US last summer.

Craft beer is not that common in Germany, at least not as common as in the US. There are a few micro breweries in Berlin. But after almost trying all of them out I found it is time to brew my own.

It was pretty fast clear to me that only all grain would be the method of choice. And since I like it easy, BIAB sounded the way to go.

Yesterday I brew my first Batch, an English Style IPA. I hope it turns out good.

So, Hello to everyone here :-)

Dennis

Hi everybody,
Im a German living Ireland and have done a few patches of BIAB Ales which turned out quite well.
When i turned to German brewing forums, I found that they have some really complicated and expensive setups going in order to brew there beer.
What I am really trying to do is to brew some of my familiar German beers without all the tech.

Thanks for having me

odet

Hey odet and welcome aboard! BIAB is a great low tech way to brew, I am a fan of German beers as well and have made quite a few I am proud of with the BIAB method. Great way to brew anything really, making wort is really pretty simple no matter how much tech and dollars you throw at it. Happy Brewing!

Hello,

I'm originally from the Allentown, PA area but now I live in Smyrna, GA a suburb of Atlanta in the USA.

I came across this site from a member named soccerdad who is also a member of Homebrewtalk.

I like the formality of the site and the attempts (and subsequent success) at creating a standard for a method that can potentially be complicated but really isn't at brewing all-grain.

I have brewed two extracts beers that have both been great. But I wish I knew about this brewing technique first and would have started with BIAB first instead of extract.

I am a stay-at-home dad and occasional graphic designer. I am contemplating a career change and becoming a Fine Art teacher at the high school level.

side-note: I'm currently researching my first BIAB recipe and due to my kettle size limitations I can only do 3 gal batches with the BIAB method. I will need help with the conversations from the BIABacus so that is why I'm finally posting after lots of reading.
Cheers!
-Nate

I'm from north Texas, U.S. Found this site through a link off Beer Advocate.
I have done a few extract batches, looking to go all grain. This looks like the way to go.
Can't wait to read more and learn.

Welcome Nate and Matt!!

Don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have. Folks here are excellent and treat all questions with the same enthusiasm, whether beginner or not.

As far as the extract brewing, I still do some extract brews from time to time. I have one extract recipe that incorporates a 20 minute boil that I like a lot. The LHBS (Northern Brewer) also has sales on extract kits every once in a while. If you pitch proper yeast amounts and control your fermentation temps, there is no reason you can't continue to enjoy both methods of brewing.

Heyho :)

I'm from Cheshire in the UK, found this site from a link on another brewing forum and as I'm currently BIABing (one down, many more to come :P) seems like a good place to come say "hello". I've wanted to get into home brewing for years - my Dad used to make beer and wine when I was a kid - but I've never had authorisation from "the boss" until out of the blue she bought me a starter kit for Christmas :D After the kit I've jumped straight into all grain with BIAB in a Buffalo boiler, and I have clearance for a brew shed so I can brew more regularly. I'm a software developer by trade, but work from home a lot, so I'm hoping to get to the point that I'm confident enough with brewing, and have enough monitoring in place, that I can get a brew on while actually doing my day job at the same time.

Cheers!

Steve

Hi all
New to the site from the not so sunny UK
Been brewing extract kits for a while, learning from this site before I make the jump to AG BIAB & no chill.

Lucky enough to be able to drink fantastic beer down the pub (the Fighting Cock, Bradford)so loads of liquid inspiration available to me

Got pan, got no space and I still need to source a bag, what could possibly go wrong !

Hi there! I'm the new guy from southern Manitoba, Canada. Great site, been learning a lot here lately. Never actually done an all grain beer before. Only tried one kit and it kinda sucked. I've made many batches of wine from kits and from scratch and fermented everything from bread to ginger to molasses (much of it for the purpose of distilling, but that's another story). I build decks and fences in the summer and teach music in the winter and I really love a good stout and good whisky. Sincerely hoping this is going to demystify the process of making wonderful beer in my home. Got some grain sitting in the basement now, just waiting for me to fire up the pot.
Thanks in advance!
