I'm from Mahopac NY in the lower Hudson River Valley. After a false start around 6 years ago, I returned to home brewing in 2010 and have brewed a bit over a dozen batches. At the moment I'm just doing extract + specialty grain brews. About a year ago, I moved my brewing activities from the kitchen to a room in the basement where I've installed a utility sink, workbench and electronic heater.
My best friend's son-in-law is an avid all-grain brewer and I've been thinking about going in that direction but was daunted by all the equipment required. BIAB looks like the answer to my prayers.
I'm a currently out-of-work IT guy, age 66, so I may actually be retired. The upside of the situation is that I have a lot more time for brewing! Other hobbies include sailing and music.

Good Day PhillpForget, Welcome Aboard. BIAB is the single vessel brewing process, If you only make 1 case per batch (1/2 recipe), A good stove can brew ,in arout 4 hours, from water in to all cleaned up. And will need about 4 feet on counter space. And then some out of the way place to let the batch ferment for a couple of weeks! Good Luck.

Good Day OldBunny and Welcome to the Site, BIAB is a lot like Extract + specialty grains, just MORE grain and no extract! You will need a good Thermometer, and to start, about 4 feet of Workbench space. Check out the The Master Guide of BIAB Brewing http://www.biabrewer.info/viewforum.php?f=25 and look over the Commentary http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=190 it should help you aee why BIAB is the easist way to brew! If you have questions, please post and we caan answwer them. Good Luck!

I'll be happy to share the farmhouse ale recipie. I need to check my notes to be sure, but the basics are; 3lb.M.O. malt, 2lb. wheat malt, 1lb. belg. aromatic malt,1 lb. 10deg. crystal, and about 6lbs.amber dry malt extract. Hops are 1oz. Saaz FWH, 1/2ozNo. BrewerX 60min (next time I'll try EKG here),1oz SaazX 45&30min, & 1oz. Saaz X5min. 3&1/2 gal boil X 75 min, force chill, dilute to 5&1/4 gal., pitch starter of WLP Saison blend, open primary ferment X 1week, 2ndary in carboy X 2 weeks, @ app. 70deg. Prime w/ 1&1/4 cups DME. Now, for the basics of the partial mash I'll have to consult my notes; I'll get back to you later. Good luck! JSA
(the basic recipie is an adaptation of a recipie by Randy Mosher in "Radical Brewing", to give full credit where it's due! J

Hello,
This is my first post. I arrived here from homebrewtalk. I have been brewing extracts since 1980 in southern California, and I am very interested in the BIAB process. This site appears to be the place to learn.

Hello from snowy Syracuse,NY. I came here from HBT as this was the recommended place to learn about BIAB. So far I've only brewed extract (20 brews) and have been interested in trying out something more. I've been considering partial mash because I didn't want to purchase additional equipment and then I came across BIAB. Looking forward to learning and giving it a try.

Hi there Bek and welcome to the forum
,
Lots of great brewers down your way. I'm in Sydney atm and hope to catch up with a few of them though time seems to be disappearing into a black hole
. I think there is an "Illawarra Brewers Group" that might be close to you???
You'll find BIAB really easy and be impressed with what you can do with all-grain beer. Should be a nice new 'calculator' coiming out here soon as well so keep your eyes peeled.
Cheers

Hi All,
I've been reading all I can find on BIAB and need to give it a try. Haven't K&K'ed for a number of years but did do a couple of brews at ubrewit. My kids bought me a Kegerator and three kegs (do they think I have a drinking problem?) which have seen just one brew in the last couple of years so I need to extract the digit and get stuck in to some brewing.
All the best

Hey all, I am an old wheat farmer from central Kansas,USA. Been extract brewing for a couple years, and have been wanting to go all grain but all the extra equipment has kept me from it. Then I read about BIAB and really want to go this route.
I ended up with two 15.5gal kegs that I am going to make into a keggle, and had the wife pick up the voile material for the grain bag.
This site is great and have been reading for hours trying to take in all this information.
Just wanted to sign up and join in on the fun.
I built a 'Man Cave' in my basement and this is where I do all my wine making and beer brewing. I also built a small bar with a 3 tap kegerator for my beer. I call my man cave 'TangleFoot Tavern' for obvious reasons.
I am sure I'll have many questions as I go along but for now I am still studing the site and gathering materials.
G'day to ya all,
TangleFoot

to thughes, from John Amidon, re belg saison, the rest of the story...
1 omission-plz add 2lb. Munich malt to malt bill(knew I forgot somethin)
my kettle woun't hold 6 gal., so I do 3.5gal boils - you might need to adjust. Mashed w/ 10.5qts. spring H2O in a bag (in a cooler) @ 154deg. for 1 hr. pH adjusted to 5.2. After 1 hr., added 1&1/2 gal. of 170deg. spring H2O, removed + drained bag + diluted the wort to 3.5 gal., then boiled 75 min. The rest of the recipie is the same. Good luck, plz let me know how you handled it & how it turned out. cheers, JSA

Hi, all. Greetings from Northeast Ohio, USA!
I started brewing in 1976, and have been happy brewing extract/partial mash beers mostly since. But now I've heard of this BIAB stuff, I might break into AG finally after all
I've been kegging for 10 years, and am building a three-corny kegerator with peltier coolers for the dining room. Brewing is in an electrified bucket for the kettle, and I'm working out a means of keeping the bag of grain off the elements before I go too far with BIAB. Never could quite get a light-colored beer with extracts...
Thanks for the site - lots of good information.

Good Day Cal, Welcomne to the site, Good to hear you going BIAB ALL-Grain. To keep the bag off the bottom or off the Heater, Many of us use Cake cooler racks see http://www.amazon.com/Round-Cake-Coolin ... B0002HPHYU And we raise the height with bolts, posts, other things to save the heater and the bag. See our section on Electric BIAB's http://www.biabrewer.info/viewforum.php?f=24 for more ideas!
