Hi there, my name is Sam and I'm currently a professor at the University of Texas here in Austin. I study bureaucracies through statistics, so I tend to really like the science and calculation involved in brewing as well as good record/log keeping.

I started out brewing in high school back in West Virginia, but quickly transitioned to making homemade wine, among other things :) This past fall I picked up an extract kit from Austin Homebrew and it was a blast. I then went to partial mash in my second brew. I just completed my third batch (Cream Ale), first all-grain. AND, I didn't know it at the time, but I did a BIAB (2 gallon batch in 5 gallon cooler). I ended up batch-sparging--a sort of traditional all-grain/BIAB hybrid. I didn't realize there was a whole community built up around BIAB. I thought I was just "making do". Now, I realize this is a fantastic way to make all-grain beer. So, I look forward to reading the boards and learning from all you folks.

Just starting to brew beer. I have done a few extract batches and looking forward to the switch to all grain. I just received my new brew kettle and am ready to get started. Looking forward to catching up on as much information as possible.

Hi guys,

Read about BIAB after listening to the Beersmith podcast this morning...
Some great ideas.

Would love to move to all grain brewing soon.. and think this is probably my next step!

Hi All

My name is John. I'm from Northeast PA, USA. I'm just getting ready to keg my 3rd batch of all grain brew. I started brewing beer about 2 months ago and I am amazed with the results. While looking for info about home brewing, I came across this forum. After reading some of the excellent info here, I'm looking forward to the BIAB method. Thanks for letting me be a member here and the opportunity to learn new techniques through this forum. Hopefully I will be able to share with the members here as I become a more experienced home brewer.

Hi All

Been brewing for 6 years now on and off. Always extract cause I never had the room to go AG. Been on AHB for years but somehow only just discovered BIAB. Been doing everything I can to make my brews better, have liquid yeasts, ferment fridge got all the books. Now I find you can brew in a bag and the no-chill method seems right up my alley to. Think I will go with an Urn cause my wife wants me out of the kitchen on brew days and safer with the 15 month old around to be outside in the little shed.

Wow, So excited to find this forum!

My name is Graham Motzing, and I'm brewing beer in Brew City, USA- Milwaukee WI.

I'm a Mechanical Engineering student who has made wine, distilled 'fuels', and a few batches of extract beer. Excited to expand my horizons and spend less money on extracts- which to me feels like cheating.

Looks like you guys have an excellent forum here, and only a year old! Fantastic! Cant wait to learn more, make some great beer, and get to know everyone.

When i'm not brewing or drinking beer, I'm working on or riding Mopeds ( http://outofcontrolmopeds.blogspot.com , driving or working on my Subaru Brat (Brumby to you aussies) taking classes or working at my job in the hydraulics industry.

Greetings All,
I'm a relatively new brewer from Minneapolis Minnesota In the U.S.A. I have been brewing extract for just over a year now, trying to add a new toy or better understanding and process in every brew day. I found this site thanks to the recent pod-cast from beersmith.com about BIAB. I am a SS TIG welder by day, and have been looking into building my own mash tun, hot liqure tank, and boil kettle. Even building it myself would involve more cash that my better half would like. This Is such a great option for me to start doing all grain! So far I find this site to be helpful and extremely well thought out. Thanks to all the admins for all of the hard work.

DIY Gear,
If you have the ability to take on 'g-work' there is probably a market for your services around here. I've got access to TIG at school which i'm proficient at for aluminum and steel, but i haven't figured out the whole 'back purge' thing... this might be a good reason to do it.

Hey folks

I have been brewing on and off for about 10 years. Started off with k&k and recently moved to extract. Heard about BIAB on the AHB forum. Have been researching the step to all grain for a while and it looks like I will go BIAB initially but setting up with the possibility of expansion later if I decide to go that route. First couple of brews will likely be Maxi-BIAB on a stove top.

My first post: I have been brewing for about 15 years. I do all grain brewing from 3 to 10 gallons batches. I am working on a small simple method of brewing for my brother who just retired and is traveling around the USA in his RV. We are working on an electrical system that will produce 3 gallons, uses one vessel and can all be packed up and carried in the same one vessel. I hope to get a lot of useful information on simple one vessel easy to use method from this site.

Greetings brewers! My name is Dan i live in pennsylvania in the U.S. I have been brewing for about a year and a half. Currently i have only done extract with specialty grains but they have all been good. I've made my own recipe before,it was a smoked chocolate porter. It turned out wonderful.

I am looking to move into all grain and i live in an apartment/condo (small patio/deck) so biab sounds perfect. I am excited to gain more knowledge and experience with different beers and recipe formulation. I just started planning a house beer. Probably an esb, not exciting ,but classic and a favorite.

I am a Rhodesian now living in the UK for the past seven years,i have been brewing from kits for a while now but always with the intention of brewing from grains eventually......so....it looks as if the time is near,i am quite interested in the biab method so would just like to get a few helpful hints along the way. Any help will be much appreciated,thanks

Hi all, Chris here. K&K / Wine-guy for almost 20 years and recently bitten the BIAB bug. Up until a few months ago the "Mental Brick Wall" into all-grain brewing was broken through for me after discovering the AHB forum and then BIAB. I assume a lot of home-brewers see AG as far beyond their reach due to cost or complexity and/or being only for elitists. It is great to have resources like this site to educate home-brewers how making quality all-grain beers at home is dead easy, enjoyable and can be done for next to nix. Hopefully the "Brick Wall" into grain can be broken down for others who cannot fathom the idea that anything more than kits is even remotely possible, which was my mindset until I discovered BIAB.

Hi, found BIAB from a link at the WinesAtHome forum yesterday. Have done a couple of beer kits and one all grain batch using two small stock pots an old tapless picnic cooler and produced enough steam to start removing the wallpaper from the kitchen. That was nearly two years ago and although the beer was fantastic I haven't done another one since as I rarely have an entire day to spare. I also don't have much space for equipment so BIAB sounds like a great way to continue brewing.

The site looks packed with great information, I've only scratched the surface so far! I'm looking forward to getting some summer ales on the go soonish as spring has just sprung here in the UK.

Hi all...

I brewed kits 'n' bits for about 12 years. I've been all-grain brewing for approximately two years (23 batches), since I discovered the BIAB method on AHB (thanks PP!).

I have a 98 litre kettle, in which I usually brew a 72 litre batch size. I use the no-chill method. I've had great success using the BIAB method, great tasting beers and a couple of firsts and a few placings in local competitions.

With two young children, I appreciate the efficiency of BIAB. I get to brew about once a month.

I've been thinking about some finer points of the technique, and I'm looking forward to discussing these.

I like it so far. Just trying to find where all the info I'm looking far is located.

I've been brewing since 2006 and have been all-grain brewing for about 3 1/2 years.

5. Do you work? Are you retired or maybe you run a household?
Yes, I work as a Systems Administrator (i.e. Computer Geek)

Hi All. New here, from Chapel Hill, NC, USA. Interested in trying BIAB and found this site through a Google search. Started brewing 2 months ago, with a Mr. Beer setup. Thinking the BIAB method will let me continue with small-batch brews but expand the breadth of my brews.

Hello, you know me as Brewer Pete from AHB where I post on all things brewing, including BIAB and helping promoting mead, sake, cider and all sorts that are not our beloved grain based beers as well as promoting beekeeping, building hives, heirloom gardens, Permaculture, keeping chooks, grinding grains into flours and the like.

I did not stumble across this site, Patrick encouraged me :shoot: , with emphasis to come participate.

My beer brewing has been BIAB for all my time in Canberra and I also have joined the Electric Urn BIAB'ers from some more encouragement :shoot: from Michael (BribieG on AHB).

I now work in Melbourne but have bought a farm south of Ballarat. Because of the very large commute I'm pretty shattered by the time I am home and as I'm not set up with internet and very little phone signal reception I only have the work mobile to go online for the moment so I'm a bit quiet in the AHB/Brewing Space until I get fully set up again.

It is always a real pleasure to read this thread. Myself and other administrators/moderators/Enthusiasts etc hardly get time to relax and enjoy it, let alone respond to it. We are all however constantly impressed by the quality of posts in this thread.

Anyone can see that this forum is fuelled by enthusiasm. It is also 'bottom-heavy' so when I see someone like Brewer Pete register, I know we are in for a real treat.

BP posts on other forums extremely well - quality, integrity and accuracy from what I have seen. The more experienced posters we get here with such qualities, the sooner us mods/admin/enthusiasts or vibrant members can focus on longer term things so, if you ever see a very good BIAB poster on another forum, please encourage them to jump in here.

Nearly every day I also see gaps or problems with the structure/logic/layout or technology here. This is an area in which all members, new or old, should feel free to PM me directly.
