Good day fellow brewers, checking in from the great white north.

I am fairly new to brewing, but have been doing lots of reading / researching on the matter, and I am fully obsessed. I have 4 or 5 extract brews under the belt, and 1 biab in the fermenter. Just hoping to soak up some info from this site and figure out some ways to get my efficiency up with the brew bag method.

Cheers!

Hello All!

Well, I have been an extract brewer for the past 2 1/2 years, and have enjoyed every minute of it... even the stressful times. I am currently building my single vessel BIAB system, and while I would love to just "get it done" it's not as fast of a process than it would seem. I know that I don't want to go fully automated. I still want to have a hand in the process other than stirring.-No offense intended for those who may have fully automated systems.
I live in the Pacific Northwest which seems to be prime coffee and craft brew territory, and well....I'm ok with that. I'm hoping to gain more knowledge in the all grain BIAB realm and I am looking forward to reading all the useful info (and hopefully contribute some) here on the site. I think my ultimate goal is to have my own cozy tasting room that will also allow me to sell my brew (with all that required paperwork stuff that goes with it). But nothing bigger than that.
So..yeah. That's that for now. See you guys in the brewery.

Greetings all, my first post.  I have been a sporadic all grain brewer for 10+ years.  Over the years, I had become frustrated with the time and effort required to brew with multiple vessels.  While researching less labor intensive brewing systems, I stumbled upon a beersmith podcast discussing BIAB and BIABrewer.info and here I am.  I'm brewing more frequently and finding my consistency and quality vastly improved.  Cheers.

I appreciate the hearty welcome.
One question: why did I think BIAB would be more difficult than extract with stepping grains? It was super easy to make a 2.5 gallon batch in my 5 gallon pot. Took an extra half hour and the ingredients were cheap. I am totally sold!

There's a tonne of information on this site, but your most valuable tool in BIAB will be the BIABacus - it might look scary at first, but you will get used to it and soon wonder how you ever went without it!
Feel free to ask lots of questions also.

Hello, We are located in New Hampshire, USA. My wife and I have been an extract brewers for many years and am looking to move to BIAB. We have made many wonderful 5 gal. batches over the last 20 years and been able to duplicate the really good ones. We regularly make yeast starters and have harvested and washed yeast down and reused it too. After making a batch of ale that had a unique and delicious citrus finish I researched and found that the fermentation temperature was critical to us being able to duplicate this recipe. I have to admit that I have been sandbagging this site for a long time but have yet to make the jump. I have just ordered a 15.5 gallon keg and plan to cut it and make it into our brew vessel. Ideally want to make 10 gallon batches. I like the heavier bodied ales, my wife prefers pilsners and lagers. This time we are committed to following through with the process and making an all grain brew. I plan to start with 5 gallon batches at first. We mostly use korny kegs but sometimes split a batch between bottles and party pig. I do have come clean and admit that out all of the beer that we have made over the years, I have only made one batch that was so bad that it was undrinkable and we dumped it out. Steven

Wow, Steven, you  (and your wife) bring a ton of experience with you. Welcome to the forum where we hope to learn from you as well. I will watch for posts from you about fermentation temperatures!
You guys already know what you are doing. Getting a bigger kettle sounds good to me and starting more all-grain at the 5 gallon scale makes perfect sense. Try out the BIABacus if you haven't already done so, and you can post your file on the forum for questions before you even purchase ingredients.

Hey Everyone!

My name is Mike and I am a BIAB brewer from Chicago, IL. I started extract brewing a little over a year ago and made the switch to all grain BIAB about 9 months ago. I have absolutely fallen in love with this hobby and am always looking for ways to improve my brewing. That is how I came across this site. I have heard only good things about it and am excited to see what it has to offer!

Welcome to the site Mike7431!
Brewing is a great hobby and can be as complex or simple as you want.  Don't think you will be disappointed in the site. I can say I learned to brew from this site - and it works great (just posted about my black pilsner).  Sounds like you have some experience already.  Make sure you data mine the site and ask questions - looking forward to hearing about you brew days.
Pete
