FG and Bottling - First Ever Brew

Hi all

I am just preparing and getting close to doing my first ever brew.

I am going to use the Hoppy APA Mash Kit from Get`er Brewed.

My question is this. The kit states that i am aiming for a FG reading between 1.010 - 1.015 but my Stevenson Reeves states DO NOT BOTTLE (OR KEG) UNTIL HYDROMETER SINKS BELOW 1.006 OR BOTTLES WILL BURST....

iS iT sAFE

???

The important thing is that the FG is stable across a few readings, over an amount of time that gives you confidence that it's finished. With that said, 1.006 is pretty unrealistic for most brews. Outside of brett and sour beers, in 3+ years I've only had one standard ale read below 1.010 (it was 1.009). I've had exactly 0 bottle bombs.

1.010-1.015 is pretty standard for an APA.

^^As Rick says.

I would also be more inclined to believe Geterbrewed than Stevenson Reeves, as they are more likely to have brewed that kit and know what the fermentables are and what the yeast can accomplish.

Ok, great.... So like if the reading doesnt move for 2 or 3 days i am pretty much good to go....

So its really about making sure the yeast has finished doing its thing rather than it needing to be a specific FG

MargateNoob, if there is a tried and trusted sugar/calculator that people go to, it is a secret.

I still find the priming sugar calculator in the BIABacus to give a number that is too low for 5 gal (20 L) VIP batches. I look at several different sites for calculations and remove the high (always) and the low, then pick a reasonable number after my experiences with over-carbed fountains and the even worse case of under-carbed bottles, not to mention a few bottle bombs.
