Newbie recipe help please

Post #1 made 10 years ago
I have been gathering the equipment for my first biab brew and purchased the ingredients for a simple golden ale recipe that I found online. Having returned from the brew shop I am unable to find the recipe again and was hoping someone could help me.

It was a 14 - 15ltr recipe and the ingredients are:

3kg golden pale ale malt
500g dark crystal malt
100g hop pellets-goldings
S04 dry yeast
1g irish moss

I know that I bought too much of the crystal malt and hops but I'm really stuck on what quantities I should be using.

Thanks guys

Generally, you do not want for than 10% dark crystal in a Lighter colored Ale, so I would Go with 7.5% Dark Crystal or around 225gr.

If you can Download BIABACUS at at http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1869

And enter 19L as you VIF, and your Grain Bill.

You may want to set you IBU to between 15 and 30 Ibu, and Adjust the Dark Crystal to to get around 10 SRM to stay in Style.

Many of Us can help with you BIABACUS Recipe, so please post it.

I certainly wouldn't be using dark crystal in a golden but.... To each their own.

I would go 94% base malt to 6% on the crystal. 60 minute hop addition to 40 ibu with a small flameout addition.
